Fine arts auction in Fold Auction House.
Pioneers, abstracts, Georg Guðni and Eyborg Guðmundsdóttir.
Fold Auction House will be holding a two-day fine arts auction on
Monday and Tuesday December 2
nd
and 3
rd. The auction begins at
6 PM both days and features about 200 items in total. All the auctioned items are on display at Gallerí Fold on Rauðarárstígur.
Of particular note is a large oil painting by Georg Guðni from 2001. Georg Guðni is a very sought-after artist and getting a painting by him on auction is very rare. The auction also includes another painting by a different highly sought-after artist who is almost never offered for sale, an abstract picture by Eyborg Guðmundsdóttir. Kjarvalsstaðir Museum held an exhibition of Eyborg’s work earlier this year, which drew a lot of attention.
But that is far from the only abstract picture on auction. The wide selection of abstracts includes two impressive paintings by Bragi Ásgeirsson, one from 1957, the other from 2007, as well as pictures by Karl Kvaran, Óli G. Jóhannsson, Jón Engilberts and Svavar Guðnason, to name a few.
The pioneers of Icelandic art also have their place. Especially of note is a water colour picture from Suðursveit by Ásgrímur Jónsson from 1907, an impressive picture of people at a picnic by Þorvaldur Skúlason, a picture from Akureyri by Kristín Jónsdóttir, as well as works by Jóhann Briem and Gunnlaugur Blöndal. The auction also features six pictures by Jóhannes Kjarval.
There will also be a few paintings by Karólína Lárusdóttir, Hringur Jóhannesson, Barbara Árnadóttir and large oil paintings by Jónas Viðar and Hafstein Austmann, the latter of which also has a total of six pictures on the auction, including a large abstract painting.
There will also be works by contemproary artists, including Þorri Hringsson, Hulda Vilhjálmsdóttir, Haraldur Bilson, Pétur Gautur, Soffía Sæmundsdóttir and Jakob Veigar.
