Volunteer Spotlight

Taylor Robertson

How many years have you been a JA volunteer?  I have been a Junior Achievement volunteer for close to one year.

What is your favorite grade/JA program?  My favorite JA program is JA Economics for Success for 7th  graders.  It is a program that is very interactive and hands-on.  Also, 7th  graders are not usually interested in Economics but with this program I feel like they really get something out of it and enjoy it.

Why did you choose JA?  I chose Junior Achievement because as a student I know these lessons on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship are not in the school curriculum.  Junior Achievement is very important to have in a classroom. It helps the students  prepare for college or a career and give students hope for the future. I also plan on becoming a teacher and having the experience of volunteering with Junior Achievement has helped me learn so much more about children and getting the experience of being a teacher for a day. I love it.

Where do you work and/or go to school?  I am a senior at Satellite High School but I also do full-time dual enrollment at Eastern Florida State College. I will be transferring to the University of North Florida in the Fall to continue studying in children's psychology and education. I work at St. Mark's Episcopal Academy in Cocoa Village and work at the aftercare and morning care children's center. I also work at The Salon in Downtown Melbourne as an assistant. I love both of my jobs very much because I get to interact with people and children all day.

Do you volunteer for any other organizations?  I also volunteer my time with Brevard Public Schools assisting other teachers in their classrooms.  It helps them and it also helps me with the experience being in the classroom for when I become a teacher.

Do you have any hobbies?  My hobbies are playing soccer; I have played soccer my whole life and I also enjoy going to the beach and attending concerts.

What area of Brevard do you live in?   I live in Indian Harbour Beach.

Anything else we should know about you?   Just that when I started JA it was for the volunteer hours but I have gotten so much out of it and the other students have also gotten so much out of it that now I do it because I enjoy it.  I highly recommend anyone that would like to volunteer their time to get involved with Junior Achievement.

JA Glasses for Classes
May 8, 2019

On May 8 we'll be raising our glasses to JA at Hell 'N Blazes for a five course gourmet food and beer pairing event. Start the night with an open bar and a little friendly competition as you bid on our silent auction. At 6:30 we'll move into the dining room where each of five gourmet courses will be introduced by Hell n Blazes' Chef Drew Campbell and Brewmaster Todd Furbeck as they explain the flavor pairings they designed between food and beer especially for this event.

Junior Achievement of the Space Coast has recently been designated a five-star JA office, and we're on track to reach almost 12,000 Brevard students this year with programs on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness. Help us reach this goal by enjoying good food, good beer, and good friends at Hell n Blazes!
