How many years have you been a JA volunteer?
I have been a JA volunteer for about four years.
What is your favorite grade/JA program?
My favorite JA program is JA Career Success. Mr. Michael Pommier, a teacher at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School, has invited me each year to present the program to his classes.
Why did you choose JA?
I chose JA because at one time I wanted to be a teacher, and doing the JA program is the closest I'll ever get to being a teacher, even if it's only for this program, an hour at a time.
Where do you work or go to school?
I retired from the New York Stock Exchange in March 2008, after 29 years. I worked as an analyst investigating allegations of insider trading, manipulation and rule violations.
Do you volunteer for any other organizations?
I do additional volunteer work -- SPCA of Brevard, as a dog handler, or "bark buddy," as we are called; Meals On Wheels, delivering meals to the home-bound once a week; and I volunteer to help out with various church functions throughout the year, most recently helping out (myself and two others) by providing some barbecue for a fund-raiser.
Do you have any hobbies?
My favorite hobby is barbecuing and grilling -- I enjoy learning about it, reading about it, and certainly engaging in it. It's not simply hamburgers and hot dogs. There's so much to learn --even after a few years there's always something new to learn.
My second favorite hobby is photography. I'm trying to learn how to use a digital SLR camera, and how to use photo editing software. It's an uphill battle for me, but I intend to keep at it.
What area of Brevard do you live in?
My wife and I currently live in Port St. John -- we moved here in 2011.
