The Pastor's Corner
By Pastor Zach Shaw
Jones Ave Family we praise the Lord for a great summer! It has been busy, but it has been very good. This summer we have seen God do some amazing things through the Family of God and the ministries of the Church!

We have seen four professions of faith during the summer months and all four will have been baptized as of August 14th (to God be the glory)! God has given us five new church members and we’ve seen God move in a marvelous way to pay off the Family Life Center Debt. God has done a great miracle of alleviating $12,000 per month from our budget and we praise Him for this. We have had VBS and TAG children’s ministries again this Summer! We had a great summer with our students and sent nine to summer camp. We once again were able to send our RA’s and GA’s to Camp La Vida and Camp McCall.

We also sent 12 people on a mission trip to Healy, Alaska to work at Camp Challenge. Brother Robert Green through G13 Ministries led this trip and what a blessing it was to serve the Lord there! We are already in the planning phase for several missions’ trips for 2023 (begin praying about how God would allow you to participate).

Jones Ave Family, let me say thank you again for honoring me for serving as your pastor for these last 8 years! It has been a true joy to serve God with you and alongside of you. However, our work is not finished! There are still many millions of lost people around the world and thousands here in Pickens Co. I’m praying God would allow us to make a great impact for the Gospel’s sake!

Good News Club @ West End Elementary

We have been given a marvelous opportunity at West End Elementary School to minister to 1st through 5th grade young boys and girls. Good News Club is an afterschool Gospel based Christian ministry that enables us to share the love of God and His message of salvation. As we see current events and the day of our Lord’s return coming closer, the urgency to reach children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ is near and dear to my heart. I’m reminded of what the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy saying, “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2nd Timothy 2:1&2) We are so blessed to have a church to attend with a pastor who is faithful in preaching the Word of God. However, this is not our blessing to keep. Many of these children have no access to a good Bible believing church with people who love them enough to tell them about Jesus. This is your opportunity to obey God and help us reach the children of the Jones Avenue community with the Gospel. Remember that the Gospel of Jesus “will not return void,” and we have no idea how our faithfulness can and will affect the families of so many children. We will be hosting Good News Club on Monday afternoons from 2:20-3:50. The first meeting will be on September 12th following the Labor Day Holiday. Please consider volunteering for this ministry. Imagine what a wonderful feeling of joy you could receive watching just one child come to an understanding of how Jesus died, was buried, and rose again for THEM. Glory to God and His Name be praised. Don’t miss out on this. If you are willing to serve, we have a great need. Everyone can do something in this ministry. Please don’t feel like you are not qualified. “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called."
Ministry Highlight
by Austin Williams, Youth and Family Pastor

2022-2023 school year loading…. It is crazy to believe but the new school year is underway and so is another full year of ministry! We are looking forward to all that God is going to do through our Salt and Light students this year and want to ask you to pray for them daily. Many of our students made decisions to follow Christ more effectively this summer and we want to aid them in this effort.

Also, this time of year brings new opportunities and vision. We believe that it is God’s will for Jones Avenue Baptist Church to REACH all students and families in our community. We are striving to connect with young families, encourage new parents, equip students to make a Gospel impact, and lead each of them into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The best is yet to come!
