How to Fold an
Origami Crane
Follow along with our Education team as they teach you how to fold orizuru , the Japanese word for origami crane. A tsuru (crane) symbolizes peace, compassion, hope, and healing, and the act of folding a crane has helped people come together in times of uncertainty.

Masters of Modern Design
A look at the influence of Japanese American artists on modern design. From the iconic typeface of The Godfather book cover to Herman Miller’s Noguchi table, the influence of Japanese American artists and designers in postwar American art and design is unparalleled. Featured artists: Ruth Asawa, George Nakashima, Isamu Noguchi, S. Neil Fujita  and  Gyo Obata.  Co-produced by JANM’s Watase Media Arts Center .

50 Objects/Stories project director Nancy Ukai joined program developer and curator Clement Hanami to talk about the artifacts from Contested Histories: Art and Artifacts from the Allen Hendershott Eaton Collection in the latest edition.

Yoemon Shinmasu – My Grandfather’s Life in Seattle
Read about how a grandson in Japan discovered the details about the grandfather he never knew—an Issei immigrant from a small fishing village in Yamaguchi-ken who came to America and started a successful barbershop in Seattle, yet tragically died in an accident in his 40s.
