The Village of Oak Park’s recycling program has long been a leader among municipalities in reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill.
In addition to a robust recycling program the Village of Oak Park also offers a food scrap composting program to residents throughout the community. Participants receive a special mobile cart for organics comparable in volume to three bags or containers of yard waste. Items eligible to be composted include yard waste, food scraps and unsoiled or food soiled paper products. Nearly 1,600 households participate in the composting program, which last year diverted 1,572 tons of organics from the landfill.
