Battle Ground Community UMC
Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors
January 2020
We are people of faith who gather to worship and love God,
care for one another, and share God’s compassion with the world.
Pastor's Ponderings
To my Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Lynda Johnson brought to my attention this powerful video on what we believe and the call to "take Jesus back." I've often said that I feel it's my calling to reclaim my Jesus from the Religious right who characterize the Jesus I know and love so deeply, to someone I can't even recognize.

I invite you to watch this powerful video and pray for clarity in what you believe and what you see in the world around you. And finally, how is God calling you to respond?
I wish you a very Happy New Year and may our church continue to thrive in 2020 as it has done so in 2019.

Peace Always, Susan
How We Worship
WHAT ARE THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS?

Ever wonder? Well the 1 2 days of Christmas are the 12 days that make up the Christian Christmas Season from Christmas Day, December 25th through January 5th. On January 6th we celebrate a new Christian season called Epiphany.
DE-GREENING OF
THE CHURCH

Saturday, January 11th
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
A Penny for Your Thoughts

The worship team is going to be assessing how our Advent worship went and determine if we should incorporate more of these elements in our worship time every Sunday.

We ask you for your help. The worship team is interested in enhancing worship so that everyone is touched in some way by the Spirit at some time of the service. Please email your CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to  pastor.boegli@gmail.com

It is important that we hear about the things you enjoyed just as much as the things you did not enjoy. Otherwise, all we get for feedback are negatives and that is not helpful for our work.
Thank you for your help, The Worship Team

Crafters' Retreat

It is that time of year again — we are making arrangements for our 10th Crafters’ Retreat!

               When: March 24-26, 2020
Where:  Beachcomber's Haven, Gleneden Beach, OR
Cost:    $125 - $145 per person, plus food and snacks.

The estimate of the room cost is based on a range of 10 – 12 attendees.  If fewer than ten, the cost will increase.

Gleneden Beach is just south of Lincoln City, Oregon. Beachcomber’s Haven is a family-oriented resort with a variety of accommodations on the coast.  We have reserved the 4-unit building, which sleeps 12 comfortably and includes “The Sandbox.” The 4 units have fully equipped kitchens; bed linens and towels are provided.  Meal preparations are shared by those attending—usually 2-3 crafters being responsible for 1 meal.  Those meals are—2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, 1 lunch. Lunch on the day we depart is devoted to using up the leftovers, either before leaving or as an on-the-road snack.

The Sand Box room is well equipped with tables, irons and ironing boards, lots of light, a small kitchenette and bathroom.  Each crafter needs to bring supplies for her own project.  In the past, projects have included painting, knitting, scrapbooking, quilting/sewing, and sometimes no specific project, just the time away to visit and get to know other women.

To reserve your space or if you have questions please contact Joyce Belcher. We are looking forward to another get-away with friends.
