Message from 2022 President Janet Murray

Dear Members,

Happy New Year! May 2022 bring good health and prosperity to each of you.

The December Installation, Awards and Holiday Gala was a wonderful evening and the first "live" event held by the Association since March 2020. Reconnecting in person felt good and I thank everyone who attended (see link within this newsletter to view photos of event).

My goal for 2022 is to have a successful year of member engagement. New initiatives will be instituted to help expand your resources and build out your network. Step Out and Network will begin soon that will allow you to get some exercise while you network and we plan to have more live events to get the membership together to exchange business information, ideas, to get to know one another and have some fun.

I hope you will join us on January 19th for a night of networking and Karaoke at the Association's Pembroke location. Will I perform a rendition of one of my favorite songs on stage? You'll have to show up to see, but regardless, be assured I will be cheering loudly for all members who participate.

Virtual classes/events will still be part of the Association's agenda to give members quality educational opportunities without having to travel beyond their keyboards. Have you registered for the virtual ABR Designation class the Association is offering on January 4th, 5th and 6th?

Your 2022 Leadership will do its best to accommodate all members during these challenging times and use creative ways to bring all of you quality, professional events and programs to help you practice at the highest level in the industry.

I look forward to serving you and thank you for the privilege of being your 2022 President.

Sincerely,

Janet Murray

2022 President
Thank you to 2022 President Janet Murray and her Leadership Team for agreeing to serve.

Visit Fairhaven and sell and buy property. Fairhaven is a free, innovative online simulation training, where agents work against the clock to sell homes in the fictional town of Fairhaven, while confronting discrimination in the homebuying process. During the training, learners also walk in the shoes of a homebuyer facing discrimination. The training provides customized feedback that learners can apply to daily business interactions. So put down the controllers to Fortnite and Roblox and log in to Fairhaven today (your clients will thank you). Fairhaven.realtor.

Complete C2EX and become endorsed by NAR. Get started on your journey today by logging in to www.C2EX.realtor (link is external) and taking any one of the 11 self-assessments to measure your proficiency in 10 aspects of professionalism (11 for brokers), ranging from customer service to use of technology. The platform generates a customized learning path and recommends experiences and resources to enhance your individual skillset. It’s not a course, class or designation—it’s an Endorsement that REALTORS® can promote when serving clients and other REALTORS®. Free as a member benefit.

Access resources to help end discrimination in the industry. Realtors® are held accountable to their fair housing obligations. NAR’s Fair Housing Action Plan, abbreviated ‘ACT,’ emphasizes (A)ccountability, (C)ulture Change, and (T)raining in order to ensure America’s 1.4 million REALTORS® are doing everything possible to protect housing rights in America. In addition to taking Code of Ethics, visiting Fairhaven and completing C2EX, you can also do the following to promote fair housing and equal opportunity for all and ensure you are not inadvertently contributing to discrimination.

  1. Download Equal Housing Opportunity logo here and use it on all your marketing materials. Be sure to read logo trademark and usage instructions.
  2. Print a copy of the REALTOR® Fair Housing Declaration and post it in your office. Access it here.
  3. Watch Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing video to help avoid implicit bias in your daily business transactions.

DECEMBER 31, 2021 WAS DEADLINE TO COMPLETE YOUR CODE OF ETHICS REQUIREMENT
The Association continually sent email reminders to those who were non-compliant with their NAR mandatory Code of Ethics requirement to encourage completion of COE training before the deadline date.

If you received these emails recently but disregarded them because you took COE between the period of January 1, 2019 - December 31 2021 you are still at risk of inactivation as South Shore Realtors® does not have your COE certificate of completion on file.

Check your member portal to see if your record says you are compliant (see instructions below). If it states you are not compliant, and you took COE, you need to send your certificate of completion ASAP to Info@SouthShoreRealtors.com so we can update your record.

INSTRUCTIONS TO LOG INTO YOUR MEMBER PORTAL TO CHECK COE STATUS.
Log into your SouthShoreRealtors.com member portal. User name is your NRDS# (click here if you don't know it) and password is your last name, initial capital letter.

In the box with your photo you will see:

  • COE Cycle End Date: 12/31/2021
  • Your Last COE Date: (date you took COE)
  • Current COE Cycle Complete: YES

If you see "Current COE Cycle Complete: NO" you need to take a Code of Ethics class or email your completion certificate to Info@SouthShoreRealtors.com ASAP. Noncompliance results in membership inactivation and reinstatement fees. We've listed some COE online options below.

  • Take COE on-line through the Massachusetts Association of Realtors® here. This will fulfill your NAR COE requirement and provides 2 CE credits. Free upon entering your NRDS# at checkout. Don't know your NRDS#? Find it here.

  • NAR's Commitment to Excellence (C2EX) program fulfills the Code of Ethics training requirement for existing members but does not provide CE Credits. C2EX is free and develops and enhances competencies that indicate a REALTORS®' commitment to ethics, advocacy, technology, data privacy, and customer service. This NAR endorsement demonstrates to clients their REALTOR® practices at the highest level of professionalism. Although individual times do vary, on average it takes about 7-10 hours or more to complete.
