April 2022 Issue
Chair's Corner
Welcome to spring! Spring means that our annual meeting is not too far in the future! I hope you will join us in Fort Worth, Texas for our Annual Meeting at the JAUSA National Leadership Conference from Wednesday, July 13 through Friday, July 15.

This will be a very special meeting as we will meet the JASAN scholarship recipients at breakfast on Thursday morning! These are the first 75 recipients of the funds raised during our incredibly successful “SOS Campaign” last year.

Take a look at our more detailed agenda, along with hotel information here.

As the end of our fiscal year approaches, it’s also time to identify prospective members of the Executive Committee for the 2022-23 year. Are you interested in making a difference in our organization? Whether it’s an “at-large” position, or potentially chairing a committee, let us know of your interest by completing this form. If you have questions about any of the roles, please let me know. Time commitment is about two hours per month, in addition to committee work.

I hope you'll contact me or any member of the Executive Committee if you have questions or comments that you feel need our attention.

Best wishes,
John

Caring and Sharing
We hosted two Connection Calls in early April catching up with over 30 JASAN members via Zoom. Staying connected is important to us and we hope to see many of you in person in Ft. Worth for our annual meeting

Knowing that the most important reason most of you joined JASAN is to stay connected with colleagues and friends, there have been suggestions that we expand our colleague updates beyond those who have joined our organization and those who have passed away.

As you’ve recently seen, we are now letting you know when colleagues could use some thoughts and prayers. If you know of someone who could use our thoughts, please tell us. We will contact them to ensure it is ok with them that we let our members know of their challenges.

In addition to challenges – we’d also like to let people know of your successes! Were you just elected to chair a new Board? Did you get a promotion? Did you just earn a major award? We want to celebrate you! Send a short paragraph to jastaffalumninetwork@gmail.com
Membership Updates
We have two new members to welcome! Please say hello to Debbie Denmark, formerly with the National Office in Colorado Springs, and Debra Hoffer, formerly with JA in Kentuckiana (Louisville, KY). The Membership Committee is excited to continue reaching out to former colleagues. If you know a former JA colleague who worked for five or more years, have them check out the JASAN website to learn more about the work we are doing and how they can become a member.

We were saddened to learn about the recent passing of two JASAN members. Please continue to uplift the families of Janie (Verbest) Camillo and Diane Klonowski in your thoughts and prayers.
Laurie Stearn
Congratulations to Laurie Stearn! She is one of only 40 to have been accepted as a fellow in the 2022 cohort of the Stanford University Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI).  The DCI program is a year-long fellowship that seeks to improve the life journey of accomplished individuals in midlife by helping them renew their purpose, build a new community, and recalibrate physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. DCI also seeks to foster intergenerational engagement in an academic setting to help create a new paradigm for the university of the future.
Building for the Future: JASAN's Fund Campaign
Have you made your annual gift to JASAN yet? If not, now is the time! JASAN depends on the generosity of our members to support its ongoing efforts, including funding our website, communication, administration, outreach, and, of course, those amazing scholarships! Please consider donating (or renewing your gift) today. Visit https://secure.qgiv.com/for/jpio/ to make your gift. Thank you!

News from JA USA

Did you know that JA is rolling out a new logo? Did you realize that the triangle was introduced in 1984!!! There was a two-year process that included regular updates for JA areas all over the world. Here’s a quick video about the new logo.

JA USA will be providing us with updated graphics for our website and social media sites over the next several months.
