August 2021 Issue
Chair's Corner
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2021-22. I trust this newsletter will find you and your family well.

Over the next year, it is our goal to keep you informed and engaged through newsletters, our new website, our Facebook group, and face-to-face gatherings where possible. Please take a few minutes to check out the website.

Another way to connect is to attend the JASAN Annual Meeting. So, mark your calendar for the next meeting which will be held in conjunction with the JA USA National Leadership Conference scheduled for July 11-14, 2022 in Fort Worth, TX. Our meeting days are not set yet. We will let you know as soon as JA USA confirms. Please consider joining us, more details to come.

I want to thank our new committee chairs for their expertise and leadership. Linda Schoelkopf – Communications, Tami Godsey – Membership, Elaine Saunders – History, Randal Mays – Awards, Rick Murray – Conferences, Brad Kauffman – Fundraising, Frank Evans – Secretary, and Ray Darby – Treasurer.

I hope you'll contact me or any member of the Executive Committee if you have questions or comments that you feel we need to hear.
Best wishes,
John

It's Time to Celebrate!
The SOS Campaign, chaired by Marty Lee, was an unparalleled success! More than 40% of our members were part of the most ambitious fund-raising effort in the history of the JA Staff Alumni Network, a Pioneer Legacy. With significant leadership gifts from several members and the Achievement Foundation, we were able to raise more than $134,000!!! Who participated? You can view the list on the Donate Now page of the new website. These funds will provide scholarships for JA staff at all levels to attend the next in-person NLC, hopefully in 2022 in Ft. Worth, Texas. There will be 75 scholarships awarded in 2022 and 50 scholarships awarded in 2023 and 2024.
2021Sweeny Award Winner
Michelle Wang, President of SimplyCo, a JA Company in Sugarland, Texas was awarded this year's scholarship. Michelle will receive a $1,000 scholarship to MIT, where she will be majoring in business analytics. Watch Michelle as she shared her appreciation for this award at our recent JASAN Annual meeting.
New Website with Contests!
It’s a new website! Using the same address, www.jastaffalumninetwork.org, we hope you’ll visit our totally revamped website. There’s lots to find, and much to look at, including a private “Members Only” section. You can complete your profile and let your fellow members know what you’re doing these days, and where they can find you. This part of the website is password protected. Check it out!

Two contests are open to all JASAN members!

First – everyone who completes this new website opinion poll will be entered in one contest.
Second – everyone who completes their profile in the Members Only section of the website will be entered in the other contest.

Contest winners will be drawn from a list of those who complete one or both of these tasks on August 26th. Winners will receive a $50 gift card!
JASAN Membership Continues to Grow!
300+ members and counting! Our organization has grown and grown – with opportunities for even more to join in the future. The membership requirements have changed and were approved by the membership at the Annual Meeting on July 28. If you know a former colleague who was with JA for a least five years, regardless of their age, have them check out the Membership Page on our website. If you want to know who is currently a member, you’ll find a list on that same page. The list is updated quarterly.

Get Involved!
We need your help! There are three committees hoping to extend their membership:
  1. History, help with our Oral Histories and learn about those who came before you;
  2. Communications, help us develop a social media strategy for the future; and
  3. Membership, help recruit new members and develop an onboarding process to help them feel welcome and engaged.
If you're interested you can let us know by email at jastaffalumninetwork@gmail.com or by completing the Committee Interest Form.
