September 2022 Issue
Chair's Corner
I trust this newsletter will find you and your family well. As we move into our second quarter, we have several exciting things taking place for our members.

Please consider joining a committee. Your participation and expertise are vital to JASAN. You should have received a survey last week inviting your participation. You can click here to access that survey. Committee
descriptions can also be found on our website. Most committees meet monthly for about an hour via Zoom.

Dennis Gilfoyle, Chair of the Engagement committee, is planning an in-person gathering after the first of the year for Florida residents, snowbirds, and anyone else who happens to be in Florida at the time. No agenda – just connecting!

Our annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the JA USA National Conference in July 2023 in Louisville, KY. Our meeting days are not set yet, but they will be sometime during the week of
July 24, 2022.  Please consider joining us.

I hope you'll contact me or any member of the Executive Committee if you have questions or comments you feel we need to hear.

Best wishes,
John Weil

How Do We Get The Work Done?
Did you know we only have a part-time administrator? Along with Hudson Whitenight (the man behind the curtain), there is an Executive Committee of 13 who bring JASAN to life. We will be spotlighting a committee in each of our upcoming newsletters, hoping to better inform you on what happens behind the scenes.

This issue features the new “Engagement Committee”, chaired by Dennis Gilfoyle. Every survey we’ve done over the past five years indicates the most important reason people join JASAN is to reconnect with former JA colleagues. Already in the planning stages is one in-person gathering in Florida, with hopes of one in Texas and another in Colorado. This is in addition to our very successful online Connection Calls.

Dennis and his team are also developing an “onboarding” process for new members to become acclimated more quickly to our organization.

Next month – the History Committee
It's "Back to School" Time!
Remember the fall when you were working for JA? Getting teachers committed? Recruiting sessions for the JA Company program? Trying to find enough volunteers? Well – some things haven’t changed! The volunteer opportunities today are much greater than even before the pandemic. We hope you’ll review the opportunities and make a commitment to bring JA to kids in your area!
Membership Updates
Please help us welcome Dawn Brabson, formerly with JA Tampa Bay, and Chad Kauffman, formerly with JA Dallas.
Dawn Brabson spent her entire 35-year career with JA of Tampa Bay from July 1987 until March
2020. She was Education Manager, Regional Director, and worked with Development and
Special Events. Knowing the program and fundraising side of JA, she enjoyed it all.

Currently, Dawn is doing some volunteer work and pursuing hobbies. She said, “I continue to
value the mission of Junior Achievement and youth development, as well as the friendships I
have made over the years”.
Chad Kauffman started working at JA in September 2011 as the President of JA Arkansas. He
then made the move to JA Greater St. Louis in July 2017 as their Chief Development Officer. His final JA career stop was as the Chief Development Officer with JA of Dallas from June 2019 until
July 2022.

After 11 years with JA, Chad is now back in Arkansas as the Director of Business Development
at CFO Network, LLC. He looks forward to staying connected to former JA colleagues and
supporting the mission and work of JASAN.
You Can Help Us Grow
Who do you know?? The Membership Committee always welcomes your help in identifying and
reaching out to any former colleagues/friends who had five or more years with JA. Let Tami
Godsey know if you know anyone with whom we might connect.

Members Only Directory Reminder
Don't forget...there is a Members Only section that has the most recent contact info and bios for all members. Check it out when you have a chance.
Sharks Win Celebrity Family Feud
On September 11, the Sharks from Shark Tank representing Junior Achievement battled the celebrities from The Talk representing the Boys and Girls Club for a $25,000 prize to be given to the organization being represented. In a fierce battle, the final decision came down to the answers provided by Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban (a JA alumnus). The Sharks pulled out the victory and won $25,000 for Junior Achievement.
