JAZZ @ GAVILAN CONCERT, CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
Tickets now on sale for Jazz @ Gavilan, a concert celebrating Gavilan’s first 100 years. The concert will be featuring the Dahveed Behroozi Group, the Michelle Pollace Group, and the Vardan Ovsepian's VOCE Ensemble.
Pianist and Composer
is a Bay Area based musician. In 2012, Dahveed released his first record Games and is scheduled to release his second album in early 2020. Originally from San Jose CA, Dahveed received his BA from the Manhattan School of Music, and his Master's from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College.
A South Bay native,
performance and recording credits include orchestra member in Lou Harrison’s internationally renowned Gamelan Si Betty (Indonesian orchestra), keyboardist for Chepito Areas (Santana’s original percussionist/arranger), co-leader of blues-rock band featuring Robbie Hoddinott (Kingfish, Bob Weir), chorus member in a Gilbert & Sullivan theater company, bassist for a grunge band, and more.
is an Armenia-born pianist/composer whose studies include Yerevan State Conservatory, Estonian Music Academy, Helsinki Jazz Conservatory, and Berklee College of Music. Ovsepian performs solo as well as with artists such as Mick Goodrick, Peter Erskine, Jerry Bergonzi and David Binney. Vardan has released 5 CDs with the Fresh Sound New Talent label, independent releases of VOCE - Vardan Ovsepian Chamber Ensemble (2006 and 2013), plus several duo and trio albums. Recent awards and publications include first prize at the Achava Jazz Award (Erfurt, Germany - 2017), Chamber Music America Grant for New Jazz Works program (New York, NY - 2017), and a release of Peter Erskine New Trio album “In Praise of Shadows”.
The concert will be held at the Gavilan College Theater at 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard in Gilroy, 95020.
