CELEBRATING OUR FEMALE FACULTY MEMBERS,
BOTH PRESENT AND PAST
March got it's name from Mars, the god of War, but I like to think of it as the beginning of spring, the Full Worm Moon, and the return of Daylight savings time. It is also the month that we now celebrate Women's History.
With that in mind and our Barlow history, I suspect that many Barlow alumni have a female teacher that impacted their Barlow experience in a positive way. We would like to gather a list of those teachers and share them in a future newsletter. We will be doing the same thing in April for male teachers at Barlow that impacted your Barlow experience in a positive way. Just send along an email to us at infojbhsaa@gmail.com, your name, the year you graduated, and the female teacher you are celebrating as well as what they taught. Below I will share who I am celebrating so you can see how it would look. Eventually the list will be posted in our Alumni Reading Room and perhaps one of of you will volunteer to give the list an artsy presentation.

EVER WONDER HOW THE MORE SEASONED ALUMNI ENTICE CLASSMATES TO GATHER AND CELEBRATE?
Below is one of the more mathematically creative attempts we have seen to gather alumni classmates to celebrate a birthday milestone. It appears to be working.

Fellow Falcons,
Happy 75th Birthday, one celebrated with white diamonds and gold. Fitting for Falcons.
Are you 27393 or 27394? Hmmm.
Our discovered language of the universe, mathematics, translates the subatomic right up to
the galactic cosmos. It keeps track of these numbers.
If you were born before February 29th your 75 year birthdate logged 27393 earthy revolutions.
The rest of us have got you by a day.
Anyone born on leap year day? Well that makes you 19, still a teenager on that cosmic scale
(with a lot of miles on your odometer).
With the new year has come some queries from ‘regular’ reunion attendees and from some
who have been unable to attend past soirees but really wanted to;
‘Are we getting together to toast our 75th?!’ I can make it this time !!
In 1961 we began our six year JBHS educational quest for that white & gold tassel flip.
A year that began a decade with an inaugural call to greatness.
So once again... let the word go forth from this time and place, to classmates and their partners
alike, that the torch has been picked up by that older generation of Falcons, born in 1949, tempered
by life, proud of our JBHS forged friendships during those formative years, and willing to revisit
that moment with our allies in fortitude and forbearance..
‘I’m getting older’, is different from, ‘I’m old’.
Sensing change with still a vein of youthful exuberance versus knowing that those occasional
glimpses of younger days have left the building.
And possibly knowing that the “maybe I will go ‘next time’ ” can be elusive.
If you would like to get together, can muster up the energy to come, let us know. We can host
here in later June if that is acceptable. We’ll tally up the responses, let Marilyn do her
organizational mastery and get back to you with the consensus details.
Our last two gatherings (70yo & 55th) brought out familiar and new faces. Hopefully we can
expand the parking for this one, a last hurrah?
One recent face from last time won’t be coming in person. Smokey, Barbara Loh, passed
away suddenly and unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago in New Zealand. She looked forward
to coming and now will be greatly missed, as will Linda Carlson who left us in January.
Hope you all can make this semisesquicentennial? Yes, there will be a spelling quiz.
