The Samuel Gorlitz Kensington Clubs Shares Members' Artwork
|
On January 22, The Kensington Clubs opened its 2023 art show, which presented artworks from Club members that had been created in the past nine months. The 20 multi-media exhibits will be open until the end of March at the Parklawn location. Feel free to drop by and grab a pamphlet for your own self-guided tour.

Art is a popular activity at the Kensington Clubs, providing therapy and recreation. It benefits both members and students from the Interages program who assist with art therapy sessions. The artists are happy to display their creations in the art show, but also enjoy bringing them home to enjoy with their families.

JCA® Celebrates 50 Years of Helping All Seniors Thrive!
This year JCA will celebrate 50 years of serving older adults in our community! We are looking for stories, photos, and memorabilia. We also are asking those who have worked or volunteered with JCA over the years to participate in the JCA 50th Anniversary Oral History Project. Interviews will be conducted by student volunteers from the Interages program. Please respond by email if you have items or memories to contribute.

Staff Profile: Colleen Kemp
Colleen Kemp is the director of the Samuel Gorlitz Kensington Clubs (KC). This March, Colleen will celebrate 12 years with JCA. Before coming to JCA, she was a recreational therapist at the Hebrew Home and an activity director at Little Sisters of the Poor in Washington, DC, where she developed a sensory stimulation program for those with end-stage dementia. Colleen's degree is in Recreational Therapy, and she has worked with physical therapy and occupational therapy in rehab, restoring independence for her clients. What Colleen loves about her work at KC is helping people with a dementia diagnosis enjoy leisure and recreational activities and providing support and resources for their caregivers. "The early-stage memory loss program is nimble enough to accept members with different levels of need and provide person-centered programming," she says.

Commission on Aging Award
The Montgomery County Commission on Aging recognized JCA’s transportation programs with a Community for a Lifetime Award. The award included an acknowledgment of how Connect-A-Ride staff worked tirelessly to support the county’s taxi programs to bring seniors to Covid-19 vaccinations.
In addition, Generations United declared that the Heyman Interages® Center continued to meet all the criteria to be called an “Intergenerational program of Distinction,” noting, “Your program is in an elite class as a program recognized with a designation of this stature.”
