 Dear Parents and Friends,

Well, the warm weather makes the end of the school year more of a reality.  Only 2 more  weeks, and 2 great weeks they will be.  In the meantime I would like to welcome a few people to our staff and give best wishes to a few who will be leaving us.

We will be saying a bitter sweet goodbye to Dina Adelsky, our Institutional Advancement Director, as she and her family move to Boston.  Dina's husband Sol will be pursuing his medical residency in Cambridge, MA and Dina has accepted a development position at Beth Israel Hospital.  We wish them both all the best with their precious children.  We thank Dina for these last two years of dedicated commitment to JCDSRI.

We will also be  saying a bitter sweet goodbye to Mr. Ben, our beloved music and computer teacher.  Mr. Ben has decided to pursue his music career in New York, and he will be sorely missed.  Who will continue to teach the kids how to create computerized music????

We welcome Rotem Goldshmid to our staff.  Rotem will be teaching Hebrew to our 4th and 5th graders,  as we thank Naomi Stein and Lisa Greenberg for their dedicated and professional teaching of Hebrew this past year.  Naomi Schorch Stein will continue at JCDSRI in a different role as Director of Admissions and Recruitment.  Naomi returns to this position, and we are delighted to have her back in the admissions saddle at JCDSRI.

We also welcome Alison Walter as our new Development Director!  Finally Alison will actually get paid for all the hard work she does on behalf of JCDSRI.  What a line-up!!

A hearty MAZAL TOV to Morah Ilana Kapach!  Ilana is this year's Rhode Island's recipient of the Eliash/Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education.   Ilana will be honored at the Alliance Annual Meeting on June 10th @ 7:00
p.m.  For all of the children and parents who have been the beneficiaries of Morah Ilana, you know how deserving she is.  Mazal Tov, Ilana!

Lastly, read about a recent study by a senior fellow at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, New Jersey - not a Jewish day school professional- that notes: "attending private religious schools is associated with the highest level of academic achievement among the three school types [religious private schools, charter schools, and public schools], even when sophisticated controls are used to adjust for socioeconomic status.]  http://ejewishphilanthropy.com/a-sharp-new-advocacy-tool-for-jewish-day-schools/

Have a wonderful weekend and a sweet Shabbat Shalom!

With warm regards,

Renee Rudnick

  Ilana award

The Grinspoon-Steinhardt Awards for Excellence in Jewish Education are designed to recognize teachers in communities across North America who have made a commitment to the field of Jewish education. The awards honor outstanding classroom-based teachers in formal Jewish educational settings (early childhood through grade 12).

We have been blessed to have Ilana teaching at our school for the past 11 years and continue to look forward to having her students and their families benefit from Ilana's gifts and talents in years to come.
