"Gifts of the Nations" at Night of 1000 Dinners
The March 6 event will feature a modified silent auction with 31 "gifts" from 30 nations, including pottery, weaving, carved wooden items, crystal, and jewelry.
Coordinator Donna Hirst reports that the value of these items varies from $5 to $700, but there is no minimum bid. All of the money raised from the auction will go to the evening's designated affordable housing agencies.
Pictured at the right are two items: a Pueblo Nation beaded collar necklace, donated by Susan, Willard and Betsy Boyd (top), and a Peruvian handmade wall hanging, donated by chapter member Kathy Fait.
Don't miss your chance to bid on these beautiful items!

Net proceeds from Night of 1000 Dinners
will be donated to these groups
advancing SDG 11 and Target 11.1

Johnson County faces a significant affordable housing crisis, especially for low-income renters, with a shortage of units, high housing costs and insufficient supply for growing populations, impacting diverse groups but disproportionately affecting Black, Latino, and Indigenous households.
Our county has Iowa's highest "housing wage," meaning a full-time worker needs $21.67/hour to afford a modest 2-bedroom, far above the average renter wage.
Worldwide there is a massive affordable housing crisis where billions lack adequate shelter, driven by soaring prices outpacing wages, housing becoming an investment vehicle, climate-related disasters, and urbanization, leading to homelessness, slum growth, and slower economies.
