Learning Module 6:
Strategies for Prospecting Employers and Pitching Clients
Editorial by Christian Saint Cyr

.
Engaging with employers and marketing your clients or students requires careful, consistent persistence. You need to develop strong relationships with employers, listen carefully to what employers are telling you, be responsive to feedback and focus on your client’s strengths while addressing any challenges.
.
Similar to any consumer who is currently happy with the products or services they are using, the average employer doesn’t fully understand why they might benefit from job development services or hiring someone outside of the traditional screening of resumes.
.
Just like a salesperson needs to inject themselves into a customer’s consciousness, a skilled job developer needs to inject themself into the hiring process and help an employer understand why they would benefit from their services.
.
This learning module is going to discuss how you can identify new and well-established employers and steps you can take to build professional relationships with them. We’ll discuss how you can best support your clients and how through successful placement and follow-up you can work with this employer again, each time a new role needs to be filled.
.
Successful job development requires crafting a reputation as a ‘problem solver’. Any successful salesperson, as with any successful recruiter or agent, carefully listens to their customer to better understand the challenges they face and their goal is to be able to suggest solutions. In this manner a job developer needs to carefully understand what employers are dealing with and to suggest candidates that will address those challenges or support their goals.
.
Within this Learning Module we cover topics like:
- Unique Attributes of Job Developers
- Applying a Sales Framework to Job Developers
- Building a Job Description
- Identifying Candidates
- Building a Network of Candidates
- Reviewing Resumes
- Conducting Interviews
- Interview Questions
- Preparation
- Thinking on Their Feet
- Making a Job Offer
- Salary and Compensation
- Final Thoughts
