Captain's Log

Happy (almost) 4th of July! We hope that you all have lots of fun planned with family and friends over this holiday weekend! Please note that we will be out of office for the remainder of the week.

This month's The Wealth Report - Sandwich Generation: Stuck in the Middle with You - focuses on a topic that I know some of you out there are dealing with. More and more people are ending up taking care of family members as they plan for their own retirement. This can be kids, aging parents, or both at the same time. Obviously, this makes things a bit more challenging, because having extra people in your household isn't free or easy.

If you have a solid financial plan for retirement, then it gets a little easier, because you can know where you stand and make informed decisions as you move through the many phases of life. Retirement isn't a stationary target and sometimes you need to pivot and adapt to make all the pieces come together, but it makes a big difference to at least have a retirement plan that you can adjust as needed. Take some time to read this month's article and think about whether you've got a good handle on things. If not, then we're here to help get you on track.

If  there is anything we can assist you with, then just let us know.  And, as always, remember -  The purpose of the money dictates where you put it.

Until Next Month,

Medicare Planning Note

Another thing we want to highlight again this month is the fact that Kelly can help any of you that are turning 65 (or retiring and coming off of group coverage) with Medicare planning. We've had several clients lately mention that they're feeling overwhelmed with all the junk they're getting in the mail regarding signing up for Medicare and supplemental coverage. We do offer Medicare planning at JDS, but don't often advertise this, so we've realized that people don't even know that we can help. Kelly is contracted with several companies and is more than happy to help you wade through the steps of Medicare planning. Just let her know and she'll send you some good information to get you started.

The Wealth Report:

Sandwich Generation:
Stuck in the Middle with You

More than 40 million Americans serve as the primary caregiver for their aging parents, and this phenomenon isn't just a moment in time; it's a growing trend. The number of family caregivers is expected to continue growing as more baby boomers transition into retirement years. Projections show that by 2040, more than 80 million Americans will be age 65 or older.

The Sandwich Generation, which mostly consists of older Generation Xers and younger baby boomers, experience both emotional stress and financial challenges as over-wrought caregivers. Their time and attention are divided; their finances strewn across checks, cash, and credit card charges. All the while, they are trying to save and plan for their own retirement.
