Investor of the Month:

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines helps create and support communities. Alaska Airlines started out in 1932 connecting small towns across Alaska. 90 years later, connecting small towns and large urban areas, we still know that taking care of each other is how we all will continue to thrive. Investing in communities is part of our DNA, whether it’s through our employees volunteering to restore agricultural lands in Hawai’i or to fill and deliver boxes from a local food bank; through a grant from the Alaska Airlines Foundation; or through the ecosystem of small business relationships that are a part of our supply chain.

Air travel connects us in many ways. Connecting families, friends, and colleagues across the globe – and creating special moments through flight. Throughout the year, we have opportunities to make wishes come true for children, to honor our nation’s heroes with travel to see the war memorials in Washington D.C., and to make all feel welcome flying with us. We also feel great responsibility to the places we fly, reflected in many of the organizations we support.

Other Upcoming Camps

"See the Universe" Astronomy Camp

Learn astronomy basics while exploring the universe using real image data and robotic telescopes. How can we do real astronomy from a cloudy place like Juneau? How do backyard telescopes work? What can we learn from modern giant telescopes or space-based telescopes?

July 10 – 14

  • Students entering grades 7– 9
  • 9am-4pm Monday-Friday @ Marie Drake Planetarium
  • Registration Opening Soon

3D Printing Intro Camp (July 17-21)

Bring your creative ideas to life with 3D design & print! Campers will use the free Tinkercad modeling software to build their design skills and learn advanced tips & tricks as they progress through 2 or more projects per day. Projects include 3D printable trinkets made from 2d images, articulated creatures, multi-part assemblies, storytelling with characters and props, and candy molds. All 3D design skill levels and experiences will be accommodated!

We will be running our 3D printers around the clock for campers to print two of their favorite designs to take home. Tinkercad is free and campers will keep all of their designs, so they can continue working on them long after camp is over and print them with any 3D printer found at school, libraries, makerspaces, or homes.

  • Students entering grades 6 – 10
  • 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday @ Thunder Mountain High School
  • Camps are “Pay as you can”

3D Printing Advanced Camp (July 24-28)

Are you an intermediate or advanced modeler with an interest in robotics? Campers will 3D design in Tinkercad, 3D print, assemble, and code custom attachments for robots to score on given mission challenges. Attachments may include bumpers, kickers, robot arms and grippers powered by servo motors. Campers will learn how to download STL design files from various robot kit companies like REVrobotics.com and 3D design libraries like Thingiverse.com and Printables.com to use in their own designs. The last day of camp will include a robot tournament, where the attachments will be tested in game play. This camp is led by an experienced FIRST Tech Challenge coach and will be adapted to the interests and skills of the campers who sign up.

  • Students entering grades 8 – 12
  • 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday @ Thunder Mountain High School
  • Camps are “Pay as you can”
