Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Innovation Summit

The Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held in Juneau for the first time since the inception of this prestigious award. The important event was held at Juneau Economic Development Council's Innovation Summit last week.  This year is also the first year that Southeast Alaskans were inducted into the Hall of Fame - Geoff and Marcy Larson [Alaskan Brewing Co.] and Sandro Lane [Alaska Protein Recovery and Taku Smokeries]. The Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame was created by the Statewide Committee for Research to inspire innovative Alaskans as well as recognize the great achievements of Alaskans past and present.  The Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame celebrates and honors outstanding individuals who put Alaska on the map as leaders in innovation and to contribute to Alaska's growing culture of innovation. This year, seven new members joined the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame as part of the Innovation Summit in Juneau, produced by the Juneau Economic Development Council. The seven individuals who joined the Hall of Fame include: Sandro Lane, Rajive Ganguli, Jeff Rothman, Brian Shumaker, Peter Webley, and Geoff and Marcy Larson.

Looking to Expand Your Business or Have a Business Idea that You Want to Make Happen?

If you have a project that will create or retain jobs in Southeast Alaska, Juneau Economic Development Council could be the lender you have been looking for.  It is often very difficult for new businesses and businesses in depressed industries to get the financing they need to get started or expand, so Juneau Economic Development Council launched the Southeast Alaska Revolving Loan Fund in 1997 to bridge the gap between what banks will finance and what the business community needs.  Our goal is to provide financing for viable projects that will create and retain quality jobs and help to diversify local economies in Southeast Alaska. JEDC operates a community-based loan fund and one region wide loan program that serves smaller communities throughout Southeast Alaska. Economic Indicator:
Juneau's service providing and goods producing job count still tracking prior years while government sector is down

Juneau's total monthly job count in 2016 through September (the most recently available data) is trending below prior years. However, a look separately at the service providing sector and goods producing sector and government sector reveals that jobs are down only in the government sector.  The service providing and goods producing sectors are tracking closely with the prior three years.
Looking at Juneau's job count on a month by month basis also shows the impact of our seasonal industries on job numbers. August is Juneau's month of highest employment while January and December are the lowest. About 2,500 jobs disappear in the winter and reappear each summer.
