Juneau Economic Development Council NEWS  |  May 2020

JEDC has been considering ways that we can lift up and support minority owned businesses throughout Southeast Alaska.

We think the following observation of how our communities have been responding throughout the U.S. is a comprehensive way to really look at how organizations and their people can be the catalyst for change.

"This time could be a call to action for economic development and neighborhood district practitioners
to create real economic justice. The field of community economic development practitioners and the philanthropic community have begun making shifts to be more economically just, with some organizations
at further stages than others
" -Dionne Baux, Director of Urban Programs, NMSC

These thoughts can be adapted to any community that understands that there is always a need to encourage community support and help make those connections regularly. It is then that we interweave all walks of life
into the equation.

Let's continue to listen and understand how all of our organizations can be more conscious of our role in our own communities.

JEDC Summer Internship

Welcome Capri!

We are happy to have the opportunity to add Capri to our team for the summer. She is helping us, primarily, to process assistance to our business and non-profit community through local and federal resources, while getting a feel for the diverse programming that JEDC offers our community.

Capri was born and raised in Juneau and graduated from JDHS in 2019. In August she will be entering her sophomore year at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University in Minnesota where she is majoring in Political Science and minoring in English Writing. Currently she has an interest in International Relations and looks forward to defining her field of choice as she continues her education.

Choose Juneau: In Your Network

We are developing a campaign to encourage remote worker's to Choose Juneau as their home base.

Do you know individuals that you know are able to work remotely? Do you have connections to companies that utilize a remote working environment?

We welcome your support in researching the remote working demographic. Please consider sharing our information gathering survey with your network.
