2023 Innovators Hall of Fame:

Now Accepting Nominations

The State Committee on Research (SCoR) created the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame in 2014 to celebrate and honor outstanding individuals and inventions that put Alaska on the map as leaders in innovation and to contribute to Alaska’s growing culture of ingenuity.

SCoR invites nominations of outstanding innovators or innovations from Alaskan communities and villages who have made achievements which have impacted quality of life, economic development, the environment, and/or the welfare of the people of Alaska and the globe. SCoR and the University of Alaska are committed to establishing equal educational opportunity and encourage nominations of minority and underrepresented individuals. Nominees who are selected by SCoR will be members of the class of 2023 and will be inducted at the Innovation Summit held in Juneau on March 15-16, 2023.

Nominations will be accepted through December 16, 2022

JEDC's Position on the Constitutional Convention

JEDC opposes holding a constitutional convention, firmly believing that a constitutional convention is not necessary, would cause years of uncertainty, and may negatively impact Juneau. In May, the JEDC Board of Directors unanimously adopted a resolution in opposition to the consideration of holding a constitutional convention in our state.

The Alaska Constitution commits the State to support public education, public health, public welfare, and the University system. The current constitutional system has been flexible, allowing cities and boroughs to merge when appropriate and allowing for classes of municipalities, including home rule municipalities. Where local government is concerned, the Alaska Constitution, as written, provides a necessary and empowering legal framework within which to exert local control and respond to resident priorities.

A constitutional convention would inject years of uncertainty into the statutory and regulatory frameworks that govern every aspect of Alaskans’ lives. Furthermore, if voters were to authorize a convention, convention delegates elected at a subsequent election would have the power to change any and all aspects of the constitution for submission to the voters. If approved, the convention is projected to cost Alaskans tens of millions of dollars.

Alaska voters overwhelmingly rejected the call for a constitutional convention in 1972 and in successive elections held in 1982, 1992, 2002, and 2012. Vote No again!

FIRST: Call for Volunteers

FIRST Robotics competition season is fast approaching!

December 10 is FIRST Tech Challenge's competition for all of Southeast at Thunder Mountain High School (Grades 6-12).

December 17 will be the FIRST Lego League Competition (Grades 4-8) and Explore Festival (Grades 1-4) at Juneau Douglas High School.

For these events to be a success, we need plenty of volunteers helping out. It is a great opportunity to inspire the next generation and see all the hard work they have put in over the last few months. No technical experience is needed and there are roles fitting every level of time commitment.
