Through this and other research publications, the JEDC hopes to increase awareness and engage citizens in local and regional economic issues. Special thanks to the many sources of data, including the State Department of Labor. We also thank our JEDC Investors for their support.

JEDC needs volunteers to teach the programs. Interested volunteers contact Robyn at [email protected]. Visit the link below for more information on the Junior Achievement Program.

Multistate Tax Commission Resale Certificate MEMO

Here is a new resource that may benefit many local businesses purchasing goods for resale from lower-48 suppliers. The Alaska Remote Sellers Sales Tax Commission (ARSSTC) has recently been approved to be listed on the Multistate Tax Commission’s (MTC) Uniform Sales & Use Tax Resale Certificate as a participating jurisdiction.

What this means for your local businesses:

Alaskan businesses that order inventory and have it shipped through Seattle frequently have difficulty trying to obtain sales tax exemption from the WA sales tax that they are being charged. This is despite the Alaskan business presenting their supplier a copy of their resale exemption certificate issued by their local taxing authority.

FIRST Lego League

The season is underway! FIRST LEGO League teams are still forming at elementary and middle schools. Contact your local school if your child wants to play or if you can help out. The Juneau tournament will be December 17, and we would love to have volunteers to help us make it a great experience for the kids. Contact Craig Fox for more information. You can find out about FIRST LEGO League here:

FIRST Tech Challenge

The FIRST Tech Challenge game was revealed September 10 and teams all over Alaska (and the world) have been building and programming robots to meet the challenge. You can see this year’s POWERPLAY presented by Raytheon Technologies Game Animation below!
