Did You Know? JFS has an onsite case manager at B'nai B'rith House (BBH) located in Claymont, DE. JFS has a contract with the BBH management company to provide social services and support through a JFS Residential Case Manager. This case manager assists and advocates for BBH residents as they apply for benefits (e.g., SNAP, SSI, SSDI, HEAP), access medical care and equipment, and seek mental health, legal, and financial services. BBH is a part of our Care Navigation program.
Additionally, the JFS Residential Case Manager offers a variety of social and wellness activities for the 208 older adult residents to keep them engaged and be active. These have included a chair exercise class, cooking classes, walking club, line dancing, afternoon movies, and a book club.
Studies show that continuing to be active has several major benefits amongst older adults. It can help maintain memory and optimize the ability to learn new things. Coming together as a community helps heal, establish, or maintain relationships. One recent study has shown that loneliness is at an increasing rise especially for senior adults. Providing community activity opportunities enables these older adults to make and retain friends which also leads to improving mental and emotional well-being. Often, it can help to prevent depression and feelings of isolation.
