SEPTEMBER 14, 2025

We are proud to announce the opening of our new office at 257 Main Street, in the heart of downtown Norwich. This expansion marks a major milestone in our mission to meet the evolving needs of individuals and families—of all ages and backgrounds—where we are needed most.

From this new home, our Norwich team will deliver a comprehensive range of vital social services designed to foster self-sufficiency, resilience, and long-term well-being. With expert, accessible support and a partnership-first approach, we aim to make a measurable difference in the lives of those we serve.

“From my first visit, I was inspired—and knew that JFS could help fill critical gaps, including for newcomer and multilingual families,” said Rachel Kornfeld, CEO, JFS of Greenwich. “What I could not have imagined was the overwhelming welcome we received—from elected officials, community partners, and neighbors alike. Opening these doors is a true joy for our team, and we look forward to building strong relationships that uplift people of every age, stage, and background.”

What began as a simple cooking demonstration blossomed into a heartfelt evening of learning, laughter, and connection for a small group of Ukrainian women. This gathering was part of ongoing health promotion programming for Ukrainian refugees, supported by state funding. Hosted in the staff kitchen at GCDS—thanks to the generous support of Jen Donnalley—the event introduced participants to several Mediterranean-inspired recipes that were healthy, budget-friendly, and delicious.

Though many of the women had never met before, the shared experience of cooking and storytelling quickly brought them together. As they prepared new dishes, they also opened up about their personal journeys since arriving in the U.S., reflecting on the differences between American life and the homes they left behind in Ukraine.

In true Ukrainian fashion, the kitchen was filled with laughter, warmth, and even spontaneous singing of traditional songs. The women were deeply grateful for the opportunity to gather, and many expressed excitement about future events.

We’re proud to support moments like these—where food becomes a bridge to friendship, healing, and community. Stay tuned for more gatherings to come!

Temple Sinai is offering a valuable opportunity for teens to become certified in teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA)—an evidence-based training designed to help youth recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges in their peers.

Open to students in grades 9–12 (ages 14–18), the course teaches teens how to support friends in crisis and emphasizes the importance of seeking help from trusted adults. Topics include anxiety, depression, substance use, self-injury, and more—presented in a safe, supportive environment.

The training is led by Morah Erica, MSW, a certified instructor through Mental Health First Aid USA®, and is generously supported by the Schiff Fund for Education. Teens will complete three 90-minute sessions and receive a certificate and manual upon completion.
