When the Lotterman Family moved to Greenwich, they were eager to connect with their new community in a meaningful way. Volunteering with JFS’s Supermarketing for Seniors program offered the perfect opportunity—not just to give back, but to grow together as a family.

“We want our kids to understand that we are part of a larger community,” they shared. “It’s so rare these days to engage across the generations. Volunteering reminds us that there isn’t just one way to live and exist in the world.”

Since April, this family of four has been making regular grocery trips for local seniors. Their outings vary week to week—sometimes it’s both parents and kids, other times it’s just one adult and one child. But no matter the arrangement, they always start with a visit. “It’s really amazing to hear their stories. Our kids love getting to know them.”

One visit made a lasting impression. “Our kids were captivated by stories from a senior who shared memories from nearly 100 years ago. She even let them play her piano. On the way home, they said they love her and want her to come to all of our family holidays.”

The impact has been deeply personal. “It’s brought us closer as a family and given us a way to build roots in a new place. We are learning, growing, and helping others—all at the same time.”

Their message to other potential volunteers? “It’s a wonderful experience. Everyone at JFS has been kind, helpful, and inspiring. We are so grateful to be part of it.”

JFS is honored to be a recipient of a 2025 Community Impact Grant from the Greenwich United Way. This week, Greenwich United Way granted more than $640,000 to local health, education, and self-sufficiency programs across 24 partner agencies.

At the Grant Recipient Reception, JFS CPO Geoffrey Anderson accepted the award from United Way CEO David Rabin. The grant will support Compassionate Companions, a JFS program that provides meaningful social connection and emotional support to isolated older adults in our community.

We are deeply grateful to Greenwich United Way for investing in programs that foster dignity, connection, and care for all.

Simon Antoniuk and Mukhtar Naziry proudly represented JFS at Stamford Day, a vibrant celebration of this city's history, diversity, and community spirit. Hosted by the Mayor’s Multicultural Council, the event featured inspiring performances and cultural showcases from around the world.

Simon and Mukhtar connected with attendees, shared information about JFS services, and helped highlight the many resources available to Stamford residents.

We're honored to be part of such a dynamic and inclusive community!
