Gilbert Rwamatwara’s path to becoming a licensed insurance producer is a testament to perseverance, purpose, and the power of hope.

“People don’t fully understand insurance,” Gilbert shared. “It plays a critical role in society—supporting families through loss, covering debts, funding education, and creating streams of income. Most importantly, it brings hope to people in their most difficult moments.”

Wanting to contribute meaningfully to his community and help others find stability in uncertain times, Gilbert began the rigorous process of becoming licensed: "The coursework was complex—covering law, taxation, finance, and more. Balancing studies with work was exhausting. I considered giving up, but I had vowed to succeed.”

Gilbert credits his success to his own determination and the help of the JFS team. “JFS encouraged me to pursue my goals and even helped reimburse the course fees. That kind of support makes a real difference.”

For Gilbert, this achievement marks a milestone in his new life in the U.S. and opens doors to professional growth and community impact. “I want to help others feel hopeful about the future. Insurance can be a tool to reduce poverty and improve lives.”

JFS celebrates Gilbert’s achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact he’ll make in his new career.

The Teen Changemakers program at UJA-JCC began its year of learning with a lively social gathering that included a meaningful community service activity. The group assembled homemade lasagnas to donate to JFS clients who visit our mobile pantry on Wednesday mornings.

The teens had a great time connecting with one another and were grateful for the opportunity to support those in need. Thanks to their efforts, JFS clients enjoyed a warm, filling meal, made with care by the next generation of changemakers!
