Ready, Set, Design! Middle School Engineering Workshop
Ready, Set, Design! provides introductory engineering experiences for young girls in the Baltimore area through half-day events held on the Johns Hopkins University campus. This is our middle school engineering workshop for girls in grades 6-8, where participants will be able to work in small groups to design and build a project involving LEDs and Arduinos. JHU students will act as mentors for the girls. Our goal is to allow the girls to experiment with engineering and inspire them to pursue further STEM interests in a creative and educational environment.

Women in Science and Engineering (WISE)
We are now accepting applications for spring and summer 2020! Baltimore City public high school female juniors and seniors interested in pursuing STEM majors in college are urged to apply to
the WISE program.
WISE offers a unique opportunity to work one-on-one after school alongside a graduate mentor in a JHU engineering and research laboratory. Intent to apply should be submitted
HERE prior to the application submission.
Summer Early Application Deadline: 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2020
Summer Program Dates: Approximately 4 weeks between June 2020 - August 2020, 6 hrs/day

Girl Power features hands-on activities, cool demonstrations, and take-home materials for students to encourage an interest in STEM careers. Participants have the opportunity to talk to professional women working in STEM fields such as aerospace, computer science, electrical engineering, geology, information technology, and space mission engineering.

Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP), Research and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP)
AEOP REAP is a summer STEM program that places talented high school students, from groups historically underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at area colleges and universities. REAP apprentices work under the direct supervision of a mentor on a hands-on research project. REAP apprentices are exposed to the real world of research, they gain valuable mentorship, and they learn about education and career opportunities in STEM. REAP apprenticeships are 5-8 weeks in length (minimum of 200 hours) and apprentices receive a stipend.

Ready, Set, Design! Elementary School Engineering Workshop

YES! Connect Summer Program
Young Environmental Scientists (YES!) Connect program is seeking a Baltimore City Public School elementary teacher to help recruit 10 current third grade students from their school to participate in a week of free 2020 summer camp and two SY20-21 school-day field trips. We want to partner with one school to provide 10 third grade students with this outdoor nature-based, science learning experience.
Students will receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day. Free transportation provided.

Maryland Science Olympiad Baltimore City Regional Tournament
The Maryland Science Olympiad Baltimore City Regional Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 7th at Morgan State University. This event draws in hundreds of students so we need your help to make sure things run smoothly. Please sign up to volunteer and see how students connect with STEM. If you aren't able to volunteer, you can still attend and observe this tournament.

FIRST Chesapeake District Events
Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense time limit, teams of high school students are challenged to raise funds, hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a field game against like-minded competitors. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Sign up to volunteer! Some volunteer positions require technical skills, but many simply require a willingness to help. All roles come with training and a supportive community.

SABES STEM Showcase Interactive Demonstration Volunteers Needed!
STEM Achievement in Baltimore Elementary Schools (SABES) is hosting its annual STEM Showcase where participating K-5th grade students will show off their STEM knowledge and student-driven projects to family, friends, and local community members. We are seeking volunteers to run interactive demonstration tables - these tables will be visited by participating students and families attending the event. You can sign up individually or as a group - the more the merrier! We have pre-made activities you can choose from or you can provide your own. It's always a fun event for all involved. Science Leadership Foundation PLC
The Center for Educational Outreach will be hosting a week-long science leadership course to equip school-based leaders with knowledge, skills, and tools to support science instruction in a pre-K-8 setting. The course will be taught by Dr. Katya Denisova and Principal Miguel Cervantes del Toro.

Insect Investigations Professional Learning Workshop
The Insect Investigations: Using 'bugs' to engage students in the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices is a 4-day workshop that will focus on how to use insects in the classroom to engage students in the Science and Engineering Practices that are an essential part of the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Teachers will be given everything they need to engage their students in a lesson they create that includes the use of live insects.
