Giving Tree from December 3rd to 10th
The holiday season is here and the spirit of kindness is growing. Many people around us cannot afford gifts, but our students can help. At lunch on Monday, December 3rd, students will be able to go to the Giving Tree across from the snack bar and pick up a wish from a person in need. The Giving Tree will then be moved to the Guidance Office. Extra tags will be available for the rest of the week. Students will have until Monday, December 10th, to buy a gift and return it to the Guidance Office. We thank all of you in advance for helping the less fortunate.
Tacolicious Restaurant Nights
Mondays in December, 632 Emerson Street
Every Monday in December, Tacolicious will donate 15% of their proceeds to JLS school. Please come out and support our fundraising efforts with Tacolicious. Here are the ways we can raise funds:
  • Monday dine-in or pick-up lunch or dinner.
  • Monday catering. Support JLS by having a taco bar delivered to your next meeting or event on one of your Mondays. To qualify for delivery, orders must total $500 or more. Email schoolproject@tacolicious.com to book your delivery.
  • Monday parties. Host a large group in any of our private dining rooms! You must book ahead through schoolproject@tacolicious.com and mention that the party is to support the TSP.
  • Gift cards. Purchase gift cards on Mondays and encourage recipients to use them on Monday as well. Double the funds!
  • T-shirts and cookbook. Buy great holiday gifts for family, friends and beloved teachers.
  • Monday pick-up of MF Chicken. Pick up a Rocky free-range rotisserie chicken
Thank you to Audrey Gold, Kory Cogdill and the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce (Iris Chen) for putting this together.

Holiday Book Drive
The library at JLS is hosting a Holiday Book Drive for the non-profit organization Access Books Bay Area which uses the books it receives to establish school library collections in underfunded elementary and middle schools in the SF Bay Area. For their current drive, Access Books is asking for books for an elementary school library they plan to support in January. A PAUSD teacher librarian is the executive director of this organization in the Bay Area and a PAUSD parent is on the board. The upcoming book drive is for K-5 fiction and nonfiction books. In the past Access Books Bay Area has had success with book drives held at middle schools requesting elementary level books because a lot of students and their parents want to clean out the home library of all the picture books and early chapter books that their middle schoolers no longer look at. Please help us increase local schoolchildren’s access to books by dropping off your gently used K-5 fiction and nonfiction books at the JLS Library from November 26th - December 14th.
Commuters' Corner
Your PTA Transportation Safety Reps have observed many bikes in our cages either unlocked or locked with thin cable locks which are easily cut. Please make sure your student has a rigid lock (like a U-lock) and that they know how to properly lock their bike's frame to one of the racks in the bike cages. For further protection, all Palo Alto residents are encouraged to register their bikes with Bike Index. Questions? Email BikeIndexJLS@gmail.com.

PTA Council Host Stanford General Use Permit School Community Meetings
Wednesday, December 5, 6:30-7:30 pm, Greene Middle School MPR and
Wednesday, December 12, 6:30-7:30 pm, JLS MPR/ Cafeteria (will be live streamed and recorded)
These important and timely meetings are to give PAUSD parents an opportunity to learn about and give input to our elected officials on the Development Agreement currently being negotiated as between Stanford University and Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Now is the time to speak up, or we might end up with overcrowded schools and fewer resources for staff and students. We hope you will join these meetings and help PAUSD parents and staff know about this important issue. What we do now will impact our school families for years to come!
