Principal's Message
I hope this message finds you all enjoying your last days of summer.

Jump Start Day is today, Tuesday, August 7th, from 2:00-4:30 pm. This is a time for students to have their picture taken, turn in forms, and purchase PE clothes. Jump Start Day is optional, and there's no need to worry if you cannot make it.

We still need some parent volunteers to help out for Jump Start Day, 6th Grade Panther Camp, and beginning of the year activities. Please click on these links to sign up.

Some of you may be aware that the City of Palo Alto is doing construction at Mitchell Park replacing the bridge next to the Magical Bridge Playground. This construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. Please see the detour Walk and Roll Map to make sure you and your child are familiar with the alternate routes during construction.

Parents will receive an e-mail on Monday, August 13th with their child's 1st period class listed. When students arrive to their 1st period class on Tuesday, August 14th, they will receive a copy of their entire schedule. School starts at 8:15 am each morning. In order for students to receive their schedule, the Annual Data Update (ADU) must be completed on Infinite Campus for each student, and 7th graders must turn in their proof of immunization.

Looking forward to a wonderful 18-19 school year.

Warm Regards,
Lisa Hickey
JLS Principal
JLS Online Directory: UpToUs
JLS PTA is using UpToUs for its electronic directory and community messaging (via grade-specific parent networks). UpToUs is password protected and you have control over the information you want viewable by others. You may change your information, preferences, or privacy settings at any time. When registering your student this year, you indicated via Infinite Campus your preference to be included in emails from the PTA and/or in the school Directory. Subsequently, PAUSD has only given us your information if you answered "YES".
  • If you want to check or change information seen on the UpToUs online directory, then sign in to hide/delete/update what’s associated with your account. Those who already indicated “No Directory” have been hidden.
  • If you indicated via Infinite Campus that you did want to be included in the school Directory and cannot access UpToUs, please contact us.
  • If you indicated via Infinite Campus that you did NOT want to be included in the school Directory but have changed your mind, please update your preference by logging in to Infinite Campus and marking "yes" to be included in the school directory.

The UpToUs JLS Online Directory information is replaced each year, so any modifications you make are not shared with PAUSD's database. To make permanent changes to your information or preferences, please change it by logging in to Infinite Campus and making changes there. The volunteers who produced the directory have made every attempt to ensure the data are accurate, reliable, timely, and authorized to be published. Information in the directory is available to families and staff of JLS Middle School and may only be used for school related activities. It may not be used for commercial, political, or marketing purposes or otherwise distributed/shared.

If you still have questions? Please email PTA directly (subject line: UpToUs JLS Online Directory).
Commuters' Corner
Please review our Getting to JLS flyer, which has the information you need to help all of our students commute to school safely. For students who usually commute via the bridge near Magical Bridge playground, please see the temporary detour maps. This is an important safety issue for students who live to the south and southeast of the JLS campus. Please review the detour routes (highlighted in yellow) with your student before the first day of school.

Palo Alto Schools, in cooperation with the City of Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Police Department, are moving to a new online bike registration program -- Volunteers will help students register their bikes on Jump Start Day. Students need to have their bike with them and know their parent's email address. More information on the switch to Bike Index and how to use it is available here.

Community Contributions to PiE Make a Difference
Back-to-School Challenge Grant, now through September 4th
PiE has just launched its 2018-2019 fundraising campaign. Please consider pledging your contribution as our kids need the support of the whole community. PiE funds go to every Palo Alto district school and provide each principal with the funding needed to staff many essential programs for the students and families at each school location. From our classroom aides, to teachers for STEAM-focused electives, music and art, to caring counselors and mentors, PiE-funded staff impact on our kids every day. Between now and September 4th, you can double your impact via the $500,000 Back-To-School Challenge Grant which matches every dollar donated to PiE. Please donate today!
