Construction Corner
The sun is shining today, the grass is so green due to all the rain, and the trees are starting to bloom. The warmer weather will help us all get through this last push of our capital project! As we wrap up May, we will also be wrapping up Phase 3 – new Hosp/Clinic Entrances and Waiting Area, Business Office, Learning Center/Conference Room(s), the east connecting link to the Care Center, the Telemedicine Room, and the Outreach Clinic. Although there will be a few finishing touches that will continue to be finalized in the next couple of months, we are hoping to open this area in the first half of June.

We will also coordinate the new Patient/Family Parking Lot with the Phase 3 Opening. This will allow patients and families to utilize the new parking lot to enter the Hospital, Clinic, Care Center, and Assisted Living. Work on the Helipad will continue throughout the summer, but the parking lot will be available. We hope to have the Lab renovations completed by the end of June, and then shift towards the remaining Hospital and Clinic internal renovations.

New SpaceOAR Procedure Available
JMHS is pleased to offer the SpaceOAR (Organs at Risk) procedure in-house. SpaceOAR is an option for men who undergo radiation treatment for prostate cancer. It acts as a spacer providing space between the rectum and the prostate, making it much less likely that the rectum is exposed to radiation. It is injected into place prior to the start of radiation treatment. Patients may be awake or asleep under general anesthesia for the procedure. SpaceOAR is minimally invasive, remains stable during radiation therapy and then is gradually absorbed by the body after radiation therapy has been completed.

The SpaceOAR procedure is performed by Urologist Dr. Erol Uke. He sees patients twice a month and provides a variety of procedures and surgeries in-house. For more information contact the outreach department at 320-312-2133.
