JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
Communications Manager (full-time, salary-based)
The CAIR-Greater Los Angeles Area is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the Communications Manager position at its Anaheim office. Join one of the most dynamic teams defending civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community and work to improve the image and understanding of Islam and American Muslims in society. This position is to be filled immediately.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and strengthening relationships with journalists, editors, bloggers and other media professionals
- Preparing news releases and organizing news conferences
- Writing opinion pieces and letters to the editor
- Conducting as well as coordinating media interviews; preparing statements and talking points
- Engaging and empowering community members through workshops, talks and outreach events
- Working proactively with media to arrange comprehensive coverage of Islam and American Muslims
- Directing media campaigns and projects
- Maintaining website, social media, sending out email newsletter and updates to community members regularly
- Working with D.C. office to coordinate and assist with media work around national issues, campaigns
QUALIFICATIONS
- A college degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or related field; Advanced degree/certificate preferred
- The ideal candidate would demonstrate the following:
- 2-3 years' experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to work on tight deadlines
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to Islam and the American Muslim community
- Ability to juggle priorities as well as work with different personalities
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations and Muslim community desired
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet use
This position reports to: Executive Director
