Go behind the scenes of the Craft Cotton Company – From Field to Quilt
|
We're turning the spotlight on the designs of the Craft Cotton Company this Spring, with a special exhibition of the fabrics and the projects they inspire.
There'll also be some sneak previews of the Autumn 2023 and 2024 collections, and a visit from the company's Aarran Levy, who'll be taking us behind the scenes of the creation of its designs.
The exhibition will run from Tuesday, 14th March to Thursday, 6th April, with a Special Saturday Opening of the Warehouse on Saturday, 18th March, and Aarran will be joining us on the evening of March 29th for a special evening talk entitled From Field to Quilt.
Aarran's the third-generation business owner of The Craft Cotton Company, which was founded in Manchester in 1944 by his grandmother, and he'll take us through the whole process of producing its fabric – from the growing of cotton plants in faraway places, to the design and finished printing, with lots of tales and anecdotes along the way.
It's going to be a fun. informative evening with people who share your passion for fabrics and quilting, so click the button below to book your place now.

Learn a new Kawandi-craft with Megan Manwaring this Spring
|
|
Here's a new – well, actually very old – patchwork skill: Kawandi.
Popular tutor and award winning quilter Megan Manwaring is back with us to lead a range of workshops this spring and summer, and she's bringing this traditional Indian style to give your quilts a totally different look.
Kawandi is a hand-stitched quilt, made from scrap fabric by the Siddi women of western India, traditionally using old saris. The quilt is assembled from the outside in: the edges are turned under and stitched together, and wadding is laid inside.
The hand stitching involved resonated with Megan due to its similarities to the boro stitching, kantha and big-stitch hand-quilting with which she had lots of experience. She read and watched all she could on the process and got busy making, and used her Kawandis to make bags in various shapes and function. She says that her zippered sewing folio is quite possibly the most useful item she has made.
And now you can get as enthused as Megan, when she runs her one-day Kawandi Workshop here in the Henley Warehouse on Friday March 10th. Come and have fun learning – old saris entirely optional!
