What Is LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL?
Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide celebration of everything afterschool programs do for students, families and communities across the country.

Thursday, October 24, 2019 is a golden opportunity to make sure parents, policymakers, and communities understand the impact of afterschool programs in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and giving families peace of mind.

Action Alert: Call on Congress to Protect Afterschool

Decisions about education funding will be made this week. Make sure afterschool has a seat at the table.

When the Senate returns to Capitol Hill this week, senators will likely start their FY2020 spending bills with the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education (LHHS) appropriations bill. As the current fiscal year ends September 30, Congress will have to act fast to avoid a continuing resolution or government shutdown.

In addition to the short deadline, the Senate will have fewer funds to work with than the House did for their LHHS bill.

Now is the time to make the case to Senate appropriators about the importance and value of federal support for afterschool and summer learning programs.

Our Vision: We see Indiana as a place where all K-12 youth have access to high quality learning experiences beyond the school day that prepare them for success in school, college, careers, and life.
