Harvest for Hope is just 39 days away!
Harvest for Hope is our premiere fundraising and networking event benefitting our Maryland, Virginia and DC health and human services programs. Each year we bring together more than 200 guests from across the public and private sectors who are passionate about empowering the lives of those in need.

For the past two years during the pandemic, we hosted Harvest for Hope as a series of virtual events. This year, we're excited to be able to welcome you and all of our supporters to our in-person Harvest for Hope gala at the beautiful Newton-White Mansion in Prince George's County, MD!

Please join us on October 20th for this special gala
in support of your vulnerable neighbors.

Each year, Americans observe Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Johnson, it was expanded by President Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.
One of the goals of Hispanic Heritage Month is to recognize the achievements of Hispanic American individuals who can inspire others to achieve success.

Meet Celso Yanes.

Celso was struggling with alcohol use when he came to VOACC. He was not happy with the direction his life was going, especially after losing his job.

Givers of hope like you helped to properly diagnose Celso with Schizoaffective Disorder and Depression, get him the support he needed, and help him recover from his addiction.
Celso has said that he doesn't know what he would have done without VOACC.

“If I wasn’t in this program, I honestly don’t know where I would be. [I would] probably be in the streets begging for food, shelter. I don’t think I would ever be where I am now.” – Celso

Today, Celso is doing much better. He is in school studying to become a certified counselor and has already started to give back to VOACC by serving on a Peer Support Advisory Committee.

There are many individuals from underserved Hispanic/Latino communities who want to experience recovery like Celso, but lack the resources and insurance needed to get high-quality care. It can also be a challenge finding care providers with the cultural and linguistic background they need to feel supported. We are so grateful to have supporters like you in our corner who understand these challenges. You make possible our ability to provide mental health and recovery services to Hispanic/Latino adults whether they have insurance or not through our "Yo Creo En Mi" (Faith in Me) program at our VOA Hope Center in Washington, DC.

You can make an impact in the life of someone like Celso today by giving to our VOA Hope Center. $100 a month provides a year of health services an adult without insurance needs to be well.
