Hello Cardinal Family!
So much is happening around JPII, especially this week during Catholic Schools’ Week! I know that for me, this year is flying by! With that said, can you believe that we are already in the process of students choosing courses for next year? The counselors are in the process of signing students up as we speak! I’m excited to let you know that we have some exciting new offerings next year. We hope you and your student will be as excited as we are. Here are some of the offerings:
- Small Animal Management - for our aspiring veterinarians!
- Dual Credit Physics - continuing our partnership with St. Louis University
- Dual Credit World History - for sophomores
- Senior English Specialty Courses - rather than all CP students taking “English IV,” they will be able to choose specialty courses to fulfill the English IV requirement. Those courses are British Literature, Shakespeare, Literature of Hope, Science Fiction, Tragedy, and Gothic Literature. Students may also take AP Literature and Composition or Dual Credit English as always!
- Principles of Architecture - taught as a fine arts elective
The counselors will work individually with each student to carefully select courses that satisfy requirements, match teacher recommendations, and engage the students. Additionally, they will look to provide a rigorous, challenging courseload, but not one that will overwhelm the students. And of course, your input in discussing courses with your child is crucial! This article in Forbes magazine outlines the factors that go into college admissions decisions concerning how challenging a courseload a student should take, and it answers many questions that we parents always have when thinking about courses and college admissions.
Enjoy the process!
Have a blessed week!

Cardinal Family,
I just wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the amazing students at John Paul II High School. This morning, after an okay start to the day, I arrived at my office and found a white paper lunch bag with my name on it, sitting on the ground.
As a creature of habit, my morning was already disrupted by a few events, such as having to take our dog Garu out twice instead of just once, taking the kitchen trash out, picking up a U-Haul truck, and taking a different route to school.
Before getting my computer out of my bag, I looked inside the paper bag and found colorful 3x5 index cards with handwritten notes of appreciation from students. This made me stop, reflect on my mission, and realize how grateful I am to be part of the JPII community and have the opportunity to serve students, parents, faculty, and staff.
I feel blessed to be a part of JPII and to be surrounded by amazing people. I appreciate every opportunity to be a positive influence on our students. This changed my morning from an ‘okay’ morning to a GREAT DAY!

As many of you may know, COVID is still making its way through society. As such, we wanted to bring to your attention that as of November 20, 2023, the government has reinstated free COVID test kits. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order an additional 4 free at-home tests beginning November 20. If you did not order tests this fall, you may place two orders for a total of 8 tests. Your order of COVID tests is completely free – you won’t even pay for shipping.
