it's all about the Garbage!
In December, we go from two dumpsters to FOUR - Thank you Ward III and Environmental Services
MORE DUMPSTERS A neighborhood committee asked Ward III to help with the wildcat dumping in Jefferson Park. A first step is getting more dumpsters. We will schedule 4x a year, 4 dumpster locations. It's extremely important that we load the dumpsters correctly, and put in only approved materials. If you have any questions, please call 791-3171, and or visit the website: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/es/neighborhood-cleanups
Next Arrival:
12/16-12/20
Four locations:
917 E. Seneca
1822 E. Lester
1850 N. Tyndall
1740 E. Edison
MORE LANDLORD COOPERATION:
CASA BONITA properties has a program for tenants which includes education, periodic dumpsters, and a roving truck to pick up discards. Casa Bonita's office number is 520-398-5738. JP residents can call about a concern regarding any Casa Bonita property and their staff will take care of the problem.
Your Neighborhood Needs You!

Grant Road Coalition: help with planning for our northern border as the Grant Road widening project continues. It involves zoom meetings and discussion with the city BEFORE final plans are set in concrete. See http://www.grantroadcoalition.com/correspondence-minutes.html for past notes. This is an experience in local civics. Contact Joan Daniels to be added to the group jdchama@msn.com.
Fundraising Committee: Got the talent? This is a hard one. Contact Colleen at: cnichols17@cox.net if you'd like to help.
Parklet at Edison and Campbell Access Rd
When it gets too weedy we get gnomes behind the bushes.
Keeping it clean and keeping bushes cut back is important!
Every 3rd Saturday of the month, 8:00 am, in the parklet at the end of Edison at Campbell Avenue, plan to meet to help with the parklet. Reminders are put out on google groups. Garbage bags and tools supplied.

In the near future, a special cleanup including pruning will be scheduled to prevent hidden areas which encourage the homeless to set up camp. We will need stackers and baggers. We will also need to dispose of clippings. Watch for a google alert.

If you do pick up trash during the week, or just prefer to pick it up at a time of your choosing, please contact Joanne Osuna at cricket16@cox.net and your time will count. We report our hours to Tucson Clean and Beautiful as part of the Adopt-a-Park Program.
HOMELESS IN THE PARK? If you find a homeless person, the City of Tucson has a protocol which brings TPD out to offer people options. The services they offer and how to report is described at https://www.tucsonaz.gov/files/hcd/Documents/Program_Policies_Procedures/City_of_Tucson_Homeless_Protocol_3.24.2021.pdf

The stands for the History signage are completed. Thank you metal craftsman and neighbor Bob Schlanger. Powder coating of the six stands was generously donated by North American Powder Coating. THANKS!

The final project is for the Parks and Recreation contractor to place the irrigation on the east side and a tree planting of 20+ trees, donated by Trees for Tucson.
Helicopters - Call if they are overhead
Helicopter Overhead?
contact BUMC Security: 520-694-6533.
Helicopters headed for Banner Hospital should not fly overhead in Jefferson Park UNLESS they have a seriously ill patient or the weather is dangerous in the "fly friendly" zone.

The "Fly Friendly Zone" is an approach from the south to the pad. Banner needs to know when the flights are not "in the zone" so please call the security at Banner when you experience an overhead flight. Don't worry about identifying the chopper-security will know if it lands on their tower.
Taking Pot Donations...
We are getting a good head start on our Spring plant sale pots. We are looking for donations of clay pots or ceramic pots in good condition (some chips ok). If you can contribute call Contact Laurel-Heather Milden- 520-343-0073, trdswmn@cox.net

Synopsis of Accessory Dwelling Amendment
...bottom line
Mayor and Council met. The vote was 6 to one (Kozachik the only dissent) to allow the building of ADU's, Accessory dwelling units, in R-1, In a nutshell:
  • The maximum size of the ADU is 1,000 square feet for lots over 7,000 square feet and 750 square feet on lots under 7,000 square feet.
  • Height limited to 12 ft or height of primary structure.
  • Five-year sunset provision (the ordinance will phase out, be evaluated, and then would have to pass again)
  • All other dimensional standards, including lot coverage and setbacks, apply.
  • The Neighborhood Preservation Zone (NPZ) is still in place for Jefferson Park
  • The Group Dwelling Code Amendment for the whole City is still in place (no more than 4 unrelated tenants, unless grandfathered in before 2012)
Special thanks to all the neighborhood leaders who weighed in and all who sent in their input to the council.
Grant Road Project Phases 5/6 - We're working on it!
A Six Neighborhood Coalition begins Discussions with DTM
The Grant Road Coalition of neighborhoods have raised concerns about the safety of cars, bikes and pedestrians on and near the Mountain Avenue intersection with Grant Road. DTM has contracted with a company in Phoenix, Burges and Niple, to conduct an RSA - Road Safety Audit. In November we will be presented with the results of that study.
TEP DELAYS LINE SITING HEARING- until February
