National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every October is dedicated to educating everyone on the risk factors, signs and symptoms, and prevention of breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.

Community Resources

Could you use extra support and guidance while caring for a loved one with dementia?

If so, Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health (REACH) may be just what you need. This skill-building program empowers caregivers through services that nourish self-esteem, increase disease knowledge, and reduce stress. Over a six-month period, a caregiver meets one-on-one with a Dementia Care Specialist to address dementia-related behaviors, home safety, self-care, social support, and caregiver stress. REACH is offered at no cost and is available in English and Spanish.

COVID-19 & Flu Updates

As part of a COVID-19 Health Disparity Grant, JPS Community Outreach is conducting a voluntary survey to help us improve and reduce COVID-19 health disparities. This survey will help us gather information about ways people reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Flu vaccination is more important than ever in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because it can reduce the overall amount of flu illness this season, in turn reducing the burden on health care systems and saving medical resources for care of patients with COVID-19. While CDC conducts annual education and awareness campaigns with the goal of increasing flu vaccination, this season, extra work has been done in this area, including the launch of a new campaign called: No One Has Time for Flu.

How to schedule COVID-19 or flu tests and vaccines:

If you are a patient at JPS:

JPS patients can use MyChart or call 817-702-1100 to schedule an appointment with their PCP.

If you are NOT a patient at JPS:

Those needing COVID-19 testing or vaccines can visit tarrantcounty.com to find a location nearest you.
