SMART RESTART CENTRAL
Jackson Public Schools has been hard at work planning for the safe return of our scholars to in-person learning in January 2021. Schools will resume virtually on January 5, and those who opt to do so will be able to return to in-person instruction on or after January 19. That extra two weeks will serve as a quarantine period following the Christmas break and potential exposure during holiday gatherings and festivities.

JPS Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene announces the District's Smart Restart plan to welcome scholars safely back to school in January.
UPCOMING EVENTS

Mark your calendars! JPS schools and offices will be closed for Christmas Break December 21-January 1.

  • 60% day for students December 18.
  • Teachers return January 4.
  • Students return virtually January 5.

Parents of children 3-5 years old may join our next Pre-K Parent Academy on Thursday, January 21. The training and all materials are free thanks to our partnership with The Barksdale Reading Institute.

We are accepting applications for middle school special programs through January 31, 2021.

Enrollment is for consideration for the 2021-2022 school year for the Academic & Performing Arts or International Baccalaureate programs.

The application window for high school special programs is January 20–February 29, 2021.

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on the appropriate deadline.

McWillie PTA Receives Funding for Virtual Learning

McWillie Elementary School was awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000 through the National PTA COVID-19 Community Relief Grant. The National PTA distributed $1.25 million in COVID relief funds to over 150 PTAs.

Jackson Public Schools is pleased to announce the addition of Cynthia Thompson to the School Board to fill the vacancy in Ward 6. She was sworn in November 12 by Board President Letitia S. Johnson.

Murrah's Pleiades Wins Acclaim of MS Scholastic Press Assoc.

The Mississippi Scholastic Press Association recognized Murrah High School's student-produced publication, Pleiades Literary Magazine, with its Best Literary Magazine of the Year Award. The school received 17 additional honors.
