DISTRICT CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY
JPS schools and offices will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. We hope our families will spend the holiday honoring our nation's true heroes. In all your celebrating, remember to be safe.

Registration is underway and ongoing for new and returning students. It has never been easier to register for school.

Families of returning students can complete registration using the JPS mobile app. Just open the app and tap the ActiveParent icon. Don't have the mobile app yet? Download it here. You can also visit our website to register online.

Families of new students can complete registration at a scheduled appointment.

UPCOMING EVENTS
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS LIVESTREAM
Jackson Public Schools will livestream this year's graduation ceremonies for all seven high schools. The public will be able to watch on Facebook at Facebook.com/JacksonPublicSchools and on YouTube at YouTube.com/JPSITV.

In-person commencement ceremonies will be held on Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2 at the Mississippi Coliseum. To accommodate safety guidelines, the schools will hold multiple events for each school. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, June 1
  • Murrah: 8:30-9:30 a.m. | 10-11 a.m. | 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Provine: 1:30-2:30 p.m. | 3-4 p.m.
  • Jim Hill: 5-6 p.m. | 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 2
  • Callaway: 8-9 a.m. | 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Forest Hill: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | 1-2 p.m.
  • Wingfield: 3-4 p.m. | 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Lanier: 6-7 p.m. | 7:30-8:30 p.m.
A3 SUMMER CAMP
Jackson Public Schools' free summer camp begins Tuesday, June 1 for all scholars who have signed up and completed registration for next fall. Attendees should have their location assignments and other details.

As a special notice about scholars previously assigned to Shirley Elementary, their location has changed to Lester Elementary. This is due to Bond construction work taking place at Shirley. Lester will serve students from Lester, Key, Sykes and Shirley.

PRE-K REGISTRATION FAIR
Jackson Public Schools will host Pre-K Registration Fairs Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at one of two locations:
 
  • McWillie Elementary (North)—4851 McWillie Circle.
  • Van Winkle Elementary (South)—1655 Whiting Road.
 
There will be refreshments and fun activities for all participants.
 
To complete registration onsite, parents will need:
 
  • A completed Pre-K Registration Application (available onsite).
  • Their Driver’s License or other government-issued Photo I.D.
  • Their scholar’s Long Form Birth Certificate.
  • Two Proofs of Residency.
  • Notified Affidavit of Shared Residency or Non-Parental Affidavit (if applicable).
SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM
The JPS Summer Feeding Program begins Monday, June 7 and will continue through July 16. We will be serving children 18 and under each weekday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. You don't have to be a JPS student to get a meal.

The program will be closed the week of July 1-7 for the 4th of July break.
 
Grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meals will be served at the following school sites:

JPS Announces Promotion of Senior Administrators

Dr. Michael Cormack Jr. will advance from Chief of Staff to serve as Deputy Superintendent. Dr. William Merritt IV will transfer into the Chief of Staff's role from Assistant Superintendent of School Support.

JPS Reschedules VTO Sports Regional Football Combine

The JPS VTO Regional Football Combine, originally scheduled for the first Saturday in June, has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 31. The combine will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Forest Hill.

Obama Magnet Receives Region II Science Fair School Award

Obama Magnet was recognized by the JSU MSEF Region II Science Fair with the School Award for outstanding support of the regional science fair. The eight students representing the school were in grades 1-5.

Jackson Public Schools will kick off the 2021 Summer Reading Program in May with help from the Midday Diva, Tambra Cherie. The theme for this year's program is "Reading Palooza."
