Exploring The Origins and Advantages of Radio over IP (RoIP)
JPS Senior Design Engineer and the original developer of Radio over IP, Doug Hall, discusses the history and future capabilities of this innovative protocol, as well as the benefits it provides compared to other network protocols such as SIP and RTP. Notably, RoIP includes the ability to detect a received signal and generate a PTT, while inherent accommodations for network latency and jitter make RoIP highly adaptable and reliable.

Frequently Asked Question
How can I use my DSP-2 module as a RoIP interface?

Along with functioning as a standard radio interface, the DSP-2 Module can be provisioned into 2 different RoIP Modes:

Standalone Mode – Converts audio from attached donor radio into RoIP. Rather than patching to other resources, this module delivers RoIP directly to another remote RoIP device such as a JPS gateway, console, or PTToC application. (Note: Rear radio interface port is enabled)

Hybrid Mode – No donor radio is interfaced to this module. Instead, it patches to other modules and delivers audio from those modules (radio, SIP, telephony, etc.) to and from a remote RoIP device. (Note: Rear radio interface port is disabled)
