As summer approaches, volatility surrounds us. George Floyd's death in police custody unleashed demonstrations worldwide. Despite signs that parts of the economy are coming back to life, The New York Times reports that COVID-19 infection rates continue to increase in more than 20 states. And, after the S&P 500 recovered much of its decline from early in the pandemic, on June 11th it fell nearly 6% - only to rebound a few days later.

The resulting uncertainty causes us to question what we know. It's a good time to review basic investment principles.
