All ages education returns in the fall.
At Joy Reigns, the wisdom of the elder and the wonder of the children learn about Jesus from each other and with each other side by side. One of the key characteristics of youth staying in the church after high school is they can identify five faith adults in their life with whom they are personally connected. Thanks to Kyle Seifering for making that connection with this child. Forming fully devoted followers of Jesus, has building blocks that begin at a very young age at Joy Reigns.

A Message from Pastor Sara
This week’s Bible reading finds Jesus and the disciples in a storm. And the disciples are really scared. Maybe you know how they feel.

What storms of life are you dealing with? Not just a single bad, rainy day but storms . Broken relationships? Financial troubles? Health concerns? Addiction? What are the things that are overwhelming you with fear?

I like what Pastor David Lose said in his weekly blog, "I tend to believe that faith doesn’t so much banish fear as it does make it possible to cope with it. At the same time, it does feel like  responding  in fear or  responding  in faith are two very different responses to the same situation. And maybe that’s the issue, not  whether  you’re afraid, but  how you respond.

Come this week, to gather together to deal with the storms of life, not alone but together with Jesus and each other.

God’s Peace,
Pastor Sara

FIRST FRUITS SUNDAY SUCCESSFUL START TO NEXT CHAPTER CAMPAIGN
First Fruits Sunday, the day when all were invited to bring a symbolic portion of our pledges to the mortgage debt campaign, was a huge success. $212,093 is already in hand towards the mortgage debt reduction! Now with the pledges and those dollars in hand, the Finance Team can begin to look with lenders at refinancing options that will both reduce the debt with designated Next Chapter dollars and allow for the possibility of mortgage expenses to be taken out of the annual budget allowing for more dollars to be available for mission and ministry. If you are interested in joining the Finance Team in this work, please contact Council President Tom Fullerton.
WATCH ELCA YOUTH GATHERING NIGHTLY MASS GATHERINGS LIVE

NEXT AACo IAF ACTION: What We Heard and What We Will Do About It
Over the past three months, Joy Reigns has joined with other organizations and together we have heard the stories of over 2,100 people from communities across Anne Arundel County. Stories shared were filled with anger, frustration, but also hope that building a power organization such as the one we are building will make us agents of real change together!

The problem areas we heard about:
  • Affordable housing
  • Safe and effective schools
  • Efficient and useful public transportation
  • Meaningful and gainful employment
  • Freedom from addiction
  • Just and fair immigration policies
  • All underpinned by systemic racism, sexism, and xenophobia, which we can dismantle together

We will lift up these stories on Thursday, July 12th from 7 - 8:30 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church (87 West St. Annapolis). There is FREE PARKING in Whitmore Garage from 6:15pm until 9:15pm. Parking Validation provided at the Action. FREE CHILDCARE PROVIDED. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early. If you are interested in attending or carpooling, please contact Claudia Garrett or Pastor Sara. To learn more about the work of IAF, read more about it on our website.
CARING FOR THE CREATION
Anne Arundel County has recently banned the use of polystyrene plastic foam products in restaurants. This will go into effect on January 1, 2020. As Joy Reigns wants to continue to be good stewards of the environment, we will follow that recommendation and no longer offer styrofoam products for food service/coffee.

SEEKING NURSERY ATTENDANT
Due to illness, Nouha Najjar has resigned. As we keep her in our prayers, we also need to look for another attendant. Do you know someone who would be interested in this part time position? Please contact Pastor Sara or Dave Emminizer or have the candidate contact them directly.

WORSHIP MINISTRY IS SEEKING MORE HELP
Did you know it takes ten people to help make worship service run smoothly each week? We currently are seeking Ushers/Greeters and Communion Servers and Hospitality helpers, so if that interests you, please contact Pastor Sara or the office. Training will be provided!
