"Creation is Messy"
with Rev. Karen
There’s this idea that the end results of the creative process are beautiful, and often we expect that process to go smoothly. This morning, we’ll explore what can happen when we forget perfectionism and expectations.
Please stay after the service for our multiplatform annual congregational meeting. Virtual attendees will stay on the worship Zoom link for a brief coffee hour followed by the meeting.

Next Sunday, May 28: Collaborative Creativity
This will be a collaborative and participatory service celebrating our creativity! We know our congregation is full of creatives of all kinds and we want to give everyone the opportunity to share their talents. We are inviting everyone and anyone to bring something they have created to the service, whether that be a work of art, a favorite recipe, a piece of writing or an instrument to create a song! If you created it, we want to see and share in it. Please email Genevieve for more information.

The Share the Plate for May 14 and May 21 is Moms on a Mission (MOMS). Moms On a Mission is a grassroots, community based group of mothers who show up to East High School in Madison every single school day to help foster the school community our kids deserve. MOMs creates a nonviolent environment by being present , by creating relationships, by de-escalating conflict, and by bringing community volunteers together to make a difference, right away, on the ground. MOMS has quickly and effectively harnessed the collective power of dozens of volunteers to support approximately 500 students on the ground. In addition they are powerful advocates for long-term, positive social change, equity, conflict resolution, and restorative justice practices.

Check-in question: What’s the last thing you made?
Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it.

Minister's Musings
What do you think of when you think about creativity? A blank canvas waiting for pencil or paint? A sheet or screen waiting for words? Is it something you do on your own, in a quiet room, waiting for inspiration? I think…

Short-Term Housing Needed for New Asylum-Seekers
Can you help our immigrant siblings who have escaped death threats and terror in their home countries and need short-term housing in Madison until they get their own apartment? The JRUUC Immigrant and Refugee Rights Team needs someone to host a married couple from Colombia for a week or two starting about May 29, and someone to host a young man from Nicaragua for up to one month starting June 1. Reeber Leila Pine knows the Nicaraguan and the Colombians, whom she is housing this week. Please contact her if you might be able to provide even just one week of housing for these wonderful new neighbors. Thank you for your kindness and compassion!

Share Your Thoughts on Adopting the 8th Principle at JRUUC
“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
Adopting the 8th Principle at Reeb would be an explicit statement that we acknowledge the need for work to dismantle racism and other oppressions within ourselves and our congregations and commit to doing so. Please tell us what you think about doing this by filling out this survey.

What's Happening in Our Community
General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, where we conduct business of the Association, explore the theological underpinnings of our faith, and lean fully into our mission and principles. This is a great year to go, especially for first-timers! There will be exciting work done on the process of revising Article II of our Bylaws, worship is always wonderful, and it’s an amazing experience to be surrounded by thousands of UUs. Early bird registration ends on February 28, and there are many opportunities for financial support. Follow these links for general information, volunteer opportunities, other financial support, registration, and housing reservations.
The General Assembly and Conference Services Team leads the initiative to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are woven throughout, from planning to fruition. You’re invited to watch this video about historical trauma and transformative healing, which is informing our work.

Voting for UUA President opens June 1. This is the final stage of a process that began in the spring of 2022. The Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt has been affirmed as the sole candidate for UUA President after no additional candidates emerged from the nomination by petition period. For more information on the election process, and to view recordings of Presidential Candidate Forums, click here. Delegates will also cast votes at General Assembly on the proposal for a revised Article II, which reflects feedback from thousands of Unitarian Universalists.
