Great reading at the Piccabeen Bookshop

Our little shop is bursting at the seams with a range of good
books, and there is always new stock to choose from. The
funds generated by this shop
are crucial in supporting our
work financially. Our volunteer staff are very friendly: do drop
in to say hello and buy a book
or two.

Appreciating our Trees: National Tree Day
Icon Calendar

On Sunday 30th July we're hosting our mountain's celebration of this annual event. The morning's highlight will be the planting at our Landcare Centre of local specimen trees prized for timber or cabinet making, to showcase the wonderful species that once covered Tamborine Mountain.

We welcome Landcare members, locals and visiting volunteers to plant a few trees, wander through our native gardens, check out the waterhole, stay for a coffee and a chat - and together enjoy what has already been achieved on the site. This property, maintained by volunteers, belongs to the community for their education and enjoyment.

Our newly built workshop area with picnic tables will be just the spot for morning tea. The specimen trees and the workshop area have been funded by the proceeds of our last Mega Book Sale held at the Landcare Shed and by the very generous donation of half of the proceeds of the sales of Raymond Curtis' poetry book.

Even if you can only drop in briefly, do join us and other like-minded TM Landcare members in the lovely surroundings of the Landcare Centre.

When: Sunday 30 July, 8.30 - 11am
Where: Landcare Centre, Hartley Rd East, North Tamborine
What to bring: drinking water, gloves, hats, closed-in shoes. Tools, morning tea provided

Note this date in your diary - and perhaps plan to bring along a neighbour, friends or family members.

In keeping with our National Tree Day theme of Tree Appreciation, do wander through this lovely regenerated site and enjoy its flourishing specimens. Follow the well-marked track down from Contour Rd, Eagle Heights to the splendid, towering fig tree shown in the photo.

And while you're rambling, why not visit other Landcare sites in the area? - Kinabalu Prospect, Contour Rd, Ohia Court (off Long Rd in Eagle Heights), or the Botanic Gardens with their lush rainforest backdrop. Our members are always welcome to visit any of our sites and see the results of our regeneration work.

Weeds, Weeds, Weeds

You may have read the very informative recent articles in the Tamborine Times identifying a series of environmental nasties. Why not contribute to the solution by tackling these or other problem weeds on your property - and setting an example to your neighbours? As a service to TM Landcare members, we may be able to provide advice in identifying weeds that may invade bushland close to private properties.

Our president, Judith Roland, has generously offered to provide this service. Please direct any inquiries to her on 0429 808 206.
New volunteers always welcome!
