Now in the Gallery!
Meet the Locals

From now through July 14, our all-member show will introduce you to the world around us, through the creative eyes and skilled hands of our member artists.  What do you see when you think "local"?  Waves?  Boats?  Lobstermen?  Birds?  Islands?  People about town?  We have all of these, and more, so don't miss the show!  (And don't let your summer visitors miss it, either!)

Our Spotlight Wall for this show will feature the work of our member Peter Moak.  Peter is an art historian who honors the influences of C├ęzanne and Picasso in his pictures.
Coming up next:
Up, Up and Away

Our next all-member show will take off around the theme "Up, Up and Away."  Let your spirits soar as you contemplate what you might see, and what you might create!  Artist drop-off is Monday, July 15, 4-6pm. Mark your calendars for the Opening Reception on Sunday, July 21, from 4-6pm. We're thinking that perhaps the weather will finally permit us to step out onto our lovely deck....

The Spotlight wall for this show will feature the work of member artist Marlane Bottino.

Thank You, KSB!

The Kittery Art Association recently received a generous donation from the Kennebunk Savings Bank.  Support from our members and our sponsors  keeps us going, and we are so grateful for this recognition of the importance of art in the local community!

"Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world."    ~Edward Hopper

The 2019 en plein air schedule is in full swing, and we're all calling for optimal summer weather on Thursday afternoons from 4-7pm.

WE NEED YOU to make our events successful!

Happenings at the gallery are so vital to our vibrant presence in the area.  Think of the times you've enjoyed the energy, art, connection and general good time at a KAA opening reception or concert.  Well, we need some volunteers to help with these events - especially staying to do some clean-up afterward.

If you can help, even one time this year, please call the gallery or click this link to email our volunteer coordinator extraordinaire, board member Beth Newkirk.

Thank you!!
Beyond Our Walls

The Kittery Art Association's mission is to "promote knowledge of the arts, stimulate interest in the work of local artists and express appreciation for the abundant creativity in the seacoast area."

We're not limiting that to the walls of our beloved gallery.  In 2019, we are nourishing current and new partnerships with local businesses and institutions to give our member artists more ways to live out our mission in and around our community.  The KAA is so grateful to our member Betsy Wish for coordinating these opportunities in the community!

If you are interested in exhibiting at these venues:

Provisions is located just up the street from the KAA, at the Pepperrell Cove complex - it's the general store underneath the 1828 Bistro, as you head down to the town landing.

If you are interested in  having your artwork  displayed a t this  great little spot  here in Kittery Point, contact Betsy Wish at  bjwish@gmail.com !    Slots are still available for 2020.
Beach Pea Baking Co. Exhibit:
Alice Lee Timmins

Alice Lee Timmins has been an active member of the Kittery Art Association for eight years.  She is pleased to have her art photography on exhibit at the Beach Pea for the months of July and August of 2019.  Her works are inspired by the Caldecott Medal for Children's Illustrated Books.  Alice strives to create
a world of "photo poems" where the child in all of us can see the world from a colorful, inspiring poet's eye.  Her photos are often taken during the KAA's en plein air events, then she digitally re-imagines each
image using layers of filtered software until just the right tone is struck.  Come enjoy a scone and a cuppa and see the works July 1 through August 31.

Beach Pea Baking Co. is located at 53 State Road in Kittery, ME, and is open from 7:30 am to 6:00pm.

If you are interested in having your artwork  displayed a t this  totally cool & hip little establishment  right here in Kittery, contact Betsy Wish at  bjwish@gmail.com !    A few slots are still available for 2020.

....and Alice has two concurrent exhibits running this summer!

Workshop with David Lussier, July 19

Join oil painter David Lussier for a one-day en plein air workshop at the Hamilton House in South Berwick on Friday, July 19.

David says "I am a painter in the purist sense of the word and my vision for my subject is truthful and from the heart. There is a dialogue that takes place between myself and my subject matter as I apply paint to canvas. I believe that by painting a thing as simply as possible, you can get to the spirit of it, and then subject and artist reveal themselves to each other. When I feel satisfied, I put the brushes down and hope that the viewer will feel satisfied too."

KAA members get $20 off the regular $150 price of this full day workshop.  Sign up directly with David via the link below.

Kittery Estates is still looking for artists!

We received a call from Annie Stone, who is in charge of art programs at  Kittery Estates, an independent retirement living residence in Kittery.  They have ongoing monthly art shows there, from the first through the last Sunday of every month, and wonder if there would be any KAA artists interested in showing there (they collect no commission).

Also, Kittery Estates is looking for artists interested in running any on-site workshops for residents in different media (paid, plus all supplies provided).  To find out more, email  deborah.stone@holidaytouch.com   or call her cell: 207-468-0541.

The Kittery Art Association, a charitable organization incorporated by the state of Maine, sponsors a variety of public events in support of local artists and writers of all ages.
Membership is $35 and expires each December 31.
Membership applications are available on our website, or feel free to pick one up at the KAA Gallery located at 8 Coleman Ave., Kittery Point, ME.  We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for supporting the Arts!
