presented in partnership with Building Energy Exchange St. Louis and U.S. Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter
In rental properties, there is a common obstacle to investment in energy efficiency...
...If the owner invests in efficient HVAC equipment and weatherization improvements, the tenant receives the benefit of lower utility bills - reducing the financial incentive for building owners to make these upgrades. Since rapid implementation of energy efficiency is critical to addressing the climate crisis, the split incentive is an obstacle that endangers our collective future. Seen more broadly,

the “split incentive” exists whenever the responsibility for a proposed improvement is held separately from its benefits.
Prior to our evening program, please join the Building Energy Exchange St. Louis & the City of St. Louis Office of Building Performance for an Info Session on the City's Building Energy Performance Standard from 4:30 - 5:30 pm at Rockwell. Then stick around for shared networking and the above program!

We are hiring!!

USGBC-Missouri Gateway is searching for our next Building Energy Exchange St. Louis Director! The Building Energy Exchange St. Louis (BE-Ex STL) aims to advance building energy performance by mobilizing the professional expertise, funding, and technical resources the real estate industry needs to address affordability, improve the health and comfort of residents, and

position St. Louis as a resilient and carbon neutral region.

Now that this new local hub supporting high performing buildings is up and running, we are seeking an ambitious and passionate candidate to accelerate the growth and success of BE-Ex STL. This is a full-time position with a full benefits package.

Cara Spencer, the inaugural BE-Ex STL director recently resigned. Jessica Deem, NCARB / LEED AP BD+C, has been named interim director as of June 27, 2022.

Launched in 2011, the Center for Green SchoolsLeaders in Sustainability Fellowship program is designed to support sustainability professionals working for change in K–12 schools.

Building on the success of the Leaders in Sustainability Fellowship, the addition of a new School Air Quality Fellowship this year will provide support to K–12 professionals specifically working on indoor air quality and environmental health within school systems.
Throughout their fellowship year,

these influential champions will participate in peer networking, targeted professional development and leadership training,

We recognize that we are a predominately white organization – our staff, our leadership, and our membership. As an organization, we recognize that we have unintentionally contributed to the status quo of injustice and systems that are racist. We know that environmental degradation and climate change disproportionately affect communities of color. We are working to do our part to address and breakdown systemic and institutional racism while understanding our own implicit biases. Learn more about our Equity and Inclusion Initiatives.
