West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation & Community Services Department

July 2026 Newsletter

For more than 40 years, the United States has celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. This month is to also recognize the full-time park and recreation professionals, along with the hundreds of thousands part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers who provide recreation programs and services and maintain parks.

This year's theme, "The Power Of..." celebrates how parks and recreation bring us together through the power of play, nature, belonging, and the people of our communities.

Join us as we celebrate all that Parks and Recreation has the power to do!

Haircuts with Heart - Sport Clips Haircuts

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Sport Clips for their generous donation of $1,506 to our Champion for a Child Scholarship Fund! ❤️

Because of your support, more children in our community will have the opportunity to participate in before and after school care and youth sports—giving them the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

We are incredibly grateful that Sport Clips chose to invest in our mission, and we also want to extend a huge thank you to everyone in our community who participated in Haircuts with Heart. Your support made this amazing gift possible!

Together, we're creating more opportunities for local children and making a lasting difference in their lives. Thank you for being champions for our kids! 💙✂️🏆

July is Disability Pride Month!

This year's Disability Pride Month theme is "The World Works Better With Us." We couldn't agree more. Disability Pride Month is celebrated each July in honor of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark civil rights legislation that helped expand access, protect rights and move our communities toward greater inclusion for people with disabilities.

At RAD, we see the impact of that every single day. Our participants make our Recreation Center and our community better through their kindness, creativity, hard work, leadership, advocacy and friendship. Every person brings unique strengths, talents and perspectives that deserve to be seen, valued and celebrated.

As we celebrate this month, we also celebrate the voices, talents and contributions of people with disabilities, while continuing to build communities where everyone belongs. Because the world truly works better with us. We are RAD.
