Midshipman Send-Off at the Japanese Embassy
On April 25, JUMP participated in a send-off event at the Japanese Embassy for graduating students from the United States Naval Academy and other D.C. area schools. Twenty-seven midshipmen attended the event and shared with the audience why they chose Japan for their first posting. Many of the graduates will ship out sometime this summer. Give them all a warm welcome if you see them!

JUMP hosted booth at the National Cherry Blossom Festival
On April 13, JUMP hosted a booth at the   Sakura Matsuri   on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. The Sakura Matsuri is the largest Japanese cultural festival in the United States and featured many Japanese-interest groups, food vendors, and performances. We met many people interested in Japan, including many service members and their families. We would like to welcome all of the new JUMP members we met at the Cherry Blossom Festival!

Sixth Annual Sasakawa USA Security Forum focused on new security challenges for the U.S.-Japan alliance
The Sixth Annual Sasakawa USA Security Forum, "The U.S.-Japan Alliance: New Security Challenges" was held on April 24, 2019 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.  
 
Sasakawa USA's mission is to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations through education, research, and programs. This year's security forum was attended by over 220 people and brought together experts from government, business, media, and academia who assessed the strengths of our alliance and shared their recommendations for overcoming future security challenges.

Recap : Future of Japan’s Security: Insight from the NDPG & MTDP
A YCAPS -JUMP seminar on April 23, 2019 partnered with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan to examine the contents of Japan’s recently published National Defense Program Guidelines (NDPG) and Mid-Term Defense Plan (MTDP). Over 40 people attended this Tokyo-based panel discussion on the future of Japan's security relationships with various partners including the United States, the Quad, European countries, and corporations in the Japanese defense industry.
