Announcing #HolidaysinJapan Photo Contest Winners
We've selected the winners of JUMP's  Fifth Annual #HolidaysinJapan Photo Contest. Thank you to all of our JUMP members who shared their pictures with us this year. This year's winning entry (see above) was taken by Chief Petty Officer Joni Abando who is stationed in Yokosuka.

Congratulations also go out to our runners up: Greg Morris, a retired Commander in the U.S. Navy who served in Yokosuka but has since returned to D.C., and Rob Dahlin, an Captain in the U.S. Navy who now serves as a professor at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Abando will receive a gift basket valued at $100 in goodies while Morris and Dahlin will receive JUMP-themed items.

2020 JUMP Annual Dinner Speaker Announcement
The fifth annual JUMP Dinner will take place on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Army and Navy Club on Farragut Square in Washington, D.C. The speaker for this year’s dinner will be Admiral Patrick Walsh, USN (Ret.), Commander of Joint Support Force, Operation TOMODACHI. Operation TOMODACHI responded to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

The reception will begin at 5:00 PM and dinner will be served at 6:30 PM in the Main Dining Room. The suggested uniform will be Service “A” for service-members and business attire for civilians and retirees.

Recap: Maritime Challenges in the Indo-Pacific: Common Causes for the U.S. and Japan Beyond Traditional Security
YCAPS -J UMP hosted two paired seminars back on November 19th and November 22nd. The events took place in Sasebo and Yokosuka respectively. This was a continuation of YCAPS recent academic focus on issues affecting South east Asia. YCAPS members were provided the opportunity to engage with a panel of experts regarding growing security measures in the Indo-Pacific the featured RADM Robert Girrier (Ret.), Dr. Asyura Salleh, Dr. Deo Florence Onda, Dr. Ito Go, Dr. Sato Yoichiro, and Mr. Brad Glosserman reflected on their individual spheres of expertise, expounding on territorial conflicts, rule of law, international involvement, and unsustainable environmental destruction. The speakers brought unique first-hand glimpses into the issues receiving global attention now.

Save the Dates : Colorado Springs and San Antonio
JUMP Norfolk : We are hosting a micro-event in Norfolk, Virginia on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Vista Point Center on-base of Naval Station Norfolk. This event will feature keynote remarks by Rear Admiral Charles "Chip" Rock, Commander of Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. The event will also feature a catered reception and cocktail hour from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

JUMP Colorado Springs: Our inaugural event will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Falcon Club on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy. This event is co-sponsored by the Japan-America Society of Southern Colorado. The event will feature keynote remarks by Lt. Gen John Dolan, former Commander of U.S. Forces Japan, a catered reception, and traditional Japanese musical performances. This is a lunchtime event.

JUMP San Antonio: Our inaugural event will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020. This event is co-sponsored by the Japan-America Society of San Antonio. The location is the historic Hangar 9 at Brooks City-Base, the oldest aircraft hangar in the country. Further details will be forthcoming.

Upcoming JUMP-YCAPS Seminar - Yokota
